cluelessness
I've had a JTV59 for many years, great guitar, but picked up another one yesterday. It works great on the magnetic PUs and fine with the various guitar sounds. However, when I try to use the alternate tunings, the E and B strings sound like they are playing the standard tuning and the alternate together. It's not pretty! Any ideas? Thanks! silverhead
What you are hearing is the unaltered tuning of the natural string vibration. If you're hearing it on the E and B strings you can likely hear it on the other strings as well. You'll be surprised at how well your ears pick up the natural acoustic sound. To convince yourself, you can do a few things to block the acoustic sound of the strings: turn the volume up really loud; wear closed back headphones; record a sample (only the altered tuning will be recorded).
