Pod Go Expression Pedal Global Volume Control

Hi folks,

I'm a convert from a pod X3 live to Pod Go and have to admit whilst I love the unit itself, I don't think the expression pedal on the Go lives up to the X3, unless it's me - which I am hoping......

In a nutshell, when gigging I like to have my pedal on 50% and set the PA up to that level. I generally play all night like it but sometimes when it gets a bit livelier in the evening and more are up and dancing etc. and the acoustics change, I kick in for a solo and there isn't quite enough volume there to cut through - problem solved, I kick the pedal down to 100% and it lifts the solo for me. The X3 has never let me down yet doing that.

With the Pod Go, there seems very little control - it goes from off/very quiet to full volume with the slightest touch and then doesn't increase any further beyond that point. I have set the pedal up to control global volume so it shouldn't matter what effects I am using, although it does seem worse with higher gain stuff.

So the question, is it me ? Is there something I need to be doing differently? Is the separate expression pedal any better if I get one of those ? I thought about getting a boost pedal and putting it in line but then thought I shouldn't really have to.

Any advice greatly appreciated, cheers.

Have you tried experimenting with the pedal’s Min and Max values? Perhaps you can find a sweep range for the pedal that provides a comfortable mid-range level but a less-than-100% level at the toe position sufficient to provide the small boost you are seeking .

Alternatively you could use a Gain block and assign it to a footswitch. Turn it on when you want the boost.

The Pod Go expression pedal can easily be used the same way, and as @silverheadsaid, it's easy to set the parameters how you want them.

Alternatively you can also use a footswitch to kick in e.g. a 3db clean main output boost.  You can reassign e.g. the fx loop footswitch to do this and position it where you like it in any of the 6 stomp positions, but this means you have to be in stomp mode. I have 2 momentary switches for FS7 and FS8 and I'll typically set FS7 as a clean boost, and FS8 as a distortion boost (either upping amp distortion, upping or kicking in a distortion pedal, or a mix of the two).

The advantage is that I can kick in FS7/8 in any mode and release the expression pedal for other things. For example, varying amp gain to clean up tone whilst keeping volume constant or varying delay mix. Using the expression pedal to clean up amp distortion is akin to volume roll off on your guitar, but without tone loss.

Just some practical ideas to think about.
