OntheLine
I'm going back and forth on a couple of amps, and the Catalyst is a frontrunner for a number of reasons, but there's one thing I can't find a lot of info on that I hope someone here can shed some light on. As a stand-alone machine, how complete is the Catalyst? Can I get everything out of it without using the app, or is the external software essential to adjusting tones and effects? The fact is, there are plenty of once-awesome things that had a software component to help people "get the most" of their hardware, and almost as many have been abandoned, not been updated in years, and either already unable to run on today's PCs and phones or headed in that direction. rd2rk
Yes, you need the app to adjust deep amp parameters (sag, bias) and FX parameters. Sooner or later, everything that connects to a computer will be obsolete (including humans). When the day comes that the app won't run on anything I'm pretty sure that the Annualized ROI will still show it to have been a great deal. And it'll still be worth more than the chemical contents of my discarded meat sack.
