Bofillrafael
Hi everyone, i am Rafael from Chile. I am really worried about my hardware... I have tested everthing what you can imagine, i saw a lot of videos on YouTube ( i saw a lot of video of Jason Sadites), i also saw videos in my Spanish languague....i aslo read the User Manual. And i tried around the "impadance" on the global Settings, i tried around the Guitar in Pad, also i tried in the other parameters with "inputs/outputs" signal, i mean LINE/Instrument...all of these according my equipment... I tested in my KRK Rokit 5 and in my passive monitores powered with its amp... I cannot find the good sound on a simple chain like "tubescreamer 808 + Peavy 5150" or "tubescreamer and marshall jcm800"....i am not doing mention about delays or reverb, because i know that to get a good sound before that, first i need to take a good distortioned guitar sound.... When i do Palm Muting, the sound i can´t , i simply cannot hear our great sound like a "chug chug chug chug", like metallica, megadeth, van halen....noooo!!, it's sounding a guitar very deep, very dark and with no tone, with any soul, with nothing of armonics, is a very bad sound with no soul.... But to finish this part: I download Helix Native, i tested the factory Presets, and Woooahhh,, sounds much better, with no edition...i could feel my guitar....after that i created my own preset, and wow, yes! i could do it.... So, yeah, i know how to manage this software, but in my real hardware Helix Floor, it doesn't sound good at all... (i also updated to 3.15 Firmware) could be my Helix Floor is damaged? well, i went to the store to get a solution, but also i would like to hear your experience, and what you think... Thanks for the patience for read all this story, greetings from Chile. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I replied a topic yesterday about Impedance (this is more info): "I hope this topic can be usefull for me, because i just bought an Helix Floor.... I have a ibanez premium RG with Dimarzio pickups.. The clean tone with clean amps sounds very cool, but when i try to sound with high gain amps with an tubescreamer in front of it, my sound is super super super bad.... i have seen a lot of videos on youtube and i can't explain how they can sound so cool, but in my case it's horrible... I was thinking maybe could be the input/output (i mean.....line or instrument)....i think i did it correctly, but this continue with "problem"....my problem is the same as the "Willyjackson22" who started this topic when he said about the difference between (in my case helix floor and helix native).... i think my helix sound like very bad tone, i don't know how to say in english but it´s like the sound cannot breath correctly... i am getting a very bad sound, but when i compared with helix native is veery different, much more cool! And i saw this subject about impedance, i hope i can resolved this situation because i am very frustrated with the helix, trying different things, parameters, videos on youtube....even i have thoght my hardware is damaged, i am going to my house right know to try this "impedance trick"...or maybe i will shot my head with a bullet =( snif.... if someone could help me i appreaciate :)" Second Answer i did: "Thanks for answer TheElevators.... Thanks to share the video as well, let me tell you that i found you on YouTube before you sent this message hehehehe :) I tested this aspect last night, i'm still continuing with problems... I am pretty sure i took all the aspects.... I really think my hardware is not working well, so i went to the store to generate a ticket for support....i will need to get patience and see what will happen..... My great doubt is, how i can make great sounds in Helix Native, but in Helix Floor i cannot do it.... This is not my first time with a guitar and amps, or virtual amps, plugins, etc... Practicaly, The Helix "ecosystem" is the same in Floor, LT, Native.... but wow, i am very sad :( It was a lot of money that i spent.... Any other comment for me can be good :)"
toddkc
Can you upload a preset that has this issue? Also make sure to check all the usual, input pad is off, global input pad is off, gate is off, global eq is off....

Helix does have a tendency to easily make dark boomy tones. You can fix that with some editing in combination with suitable speakers. Are you using FRFR? Bofillrafael
It's my first time uploading a file, i hope this file can be correct. I did it to get the "for the love of god" song by Steve Vai. When i load it on Helix Native i need to add less gain because it's different, but when i do it correctly i can get much better sound when i do palm mutting (like chug chug chug), but in the Helix Floor the chug chug sound sounds very "drowned", i don't know the word, but sounds ugly.... And yes, all what you said i tested..... For The Love Of God.hlx

Are you using FRFR? i am not using FRFR, i use KRK ROKIT 5 that sounds amazing, music sounds amazing, my mixes sounds amazing, when i play with my favorite plugin MERCURIALL SPARK sounds great, when i used with helix native sounds super, but when i use Helix Floor sounds like at 50% of its capacity, sounds off... If you wanna know how i play you can find my instagram channel rafael_bofill_music and check which is the sound what i like ...
theElevators
Downloaded your preset. It sounds extremely loud, extremely bright. I would never be able to "gig" with it. It's not the Helix, it's your preset. Your Helix can sound horrible if you overload the signal. A rule of thumb should be that your blank preset "new preset" should be about as loud as your preset you are working on. I recommend using a factory preset and tweaking it to get started. toddkc
Another question, how are you connecting your guitar to Helix Native? I wonder if you have the same "issue" that I have, which is really just that I happen to have a bunch of low-output guitars. I tweaked your preset to add a gain block first thing, try it out and see if you think that sounds any better? I have the same results with VSTs. I use an interface to connect my guitar and so it gets a much hotter signal and then the VST sounds great to me. Then I plug into my Helix, which must have a very padded input even on the non-pad setting, and I don't love the sound. At first I was adding this gain block to everything, and I still have it in my preset and footswitchable, but also now that I know what is happening I can simply tweak my presets around my guitar a bit better. So yeah, load up my preset here and see if that sounds any better to you. Vai 4D Lov6_edit.hlx

Thanks about the answer.... Yes, i know this is extremely loud, because when i add that kind of parameters in Helix Native i have to get less gain to play....BUUUUUT, this is the problem, to get crunch and chug chug chug in the hardware Helix Floor, with THAT parameters i can achieve a much more chug chug chug, otherwise can't be possible. I also i have tested a new preset, with a normal signal, i mean, with a signal who is not overloaded, and when i compare with Helix Native, it sounds different. In fact this preset i sent you is a preset that i bought in internet (youtube) .....and after that when i play i have to get down the gain (less gain).... Well, my Helix is at the store right know, i need to wait for a answer to get again the helix floor with me.... so, when i get it again i will let you know ( i had to do it because of the guarantee, here in Chile is too short the guarantee) I connect my guitar with a focusrite solo (GEN 2) via USB, signnal type: line (not instrument)..... It's interesting to me about i can achieve the sounds what i want or what i am expecting on the Helix Native, the same as i always do in others plugins like Neural DSP, Mercuriall Spark, Guitar Rig, Amplitube Bias FX.....but in the Helix Floor doesn't sound good... And about your "template" or your "default preset", i apreciate a lot what you are doing and is super good that you can use it... But at the same time i am wondering... if is it normal try to do it at this way? Because we are adultering a normal signal ....(i am thinking out loud) Thx for answers guys! (tomorrow i will test your preset edited with my Helix Native, just for know your chain) :)

theElevators
"the Marshalls seem to be broken". lol Honestly, I don't understand, why you want to get another Helix. It's your presets that sound really harsh and gainy, to the point of being unusable. If something sounds good in Native, that means that your audio interface does something to your guitar input to compensate for the harshness. If you have completely different results between the Native and physical Helix, then you know that there is something different regarding your input. Nothing is broken as far as I can tell, it's your preset that sounds very bad. .... but I guess get a new Helix....

I undertand completely what you are trying to say, but, i tried a lot of parameters......and it's imposible to achieve the sound that i can get in the helix native or any other plugin, i think you are right when you speak about the guitar input to compensate.... At the same time, my problem is that i tested with all the inputs/outputs parameters in global settings and it doen't works.... so...wow...what can more i do? Thanks again for take your time and write :)
