edwards87
I have a POD HD400 which I've always used for recording straight into my PC via the line-in jack, as I don't use an amp. Obviously not ideal, but it worked. But I switched to a laptop which has no audio inputs, meaning I have to use the USB connection. The issue is that I just cannot get it working. Cakewalk allows me to record, but I don't hear anything as I play, nor when I play back afterwards. I can't even use the laptop as a simple speaker because if I go into device properties and choose "listen to this device", I get ridiculous latency. I've tried messing around in ASIO4all but the software is so dated and non-user-friendly that I just get different options pop up or disappear when I go into ASIO4all or back into Cakewalk. Is there a simple guide for how to get this set up? I just want to use my laptop as a speaker
silverhead
Connect your speakers/headphones to the POD HD outputs. Also, configure your DAW (recording program) to use the POD HD400 and its ASIO driver, not ASIO4ALL.

The problem is that I can't hear to record or even just play over another track this way. In Cakewalk, I have the option of ASIO POD HD400 or ASIO4ALL Line 6 POD HD400, but only the 2nd one is selectable - the standard ASIO one is greyed out. silverhead
Do you have the Line 6 driver installed?
edwards87
Yes, v4.2.7.
silverhead
Can you disable the ASIO4ALL driver so that Cakewalk does not recognize/list it? Restart your PC and the POD HD afterward.

I just want to use my laptop as a speaker It is not at all advisable to try to use the laptop as a speaker, both for the problems you already mentioned and for the sound quality and for the cumbersome configuration that at the end would lead only to unsatisfactory results. You'll want to get a pair of speakers to plug directly into the POD outputs, and... ...You need to connect POD via USB to your computer. Once connected via USB the option to choose ASIO Line6 driver in your DAW should be selectable (no longer greyed out). Open the ASIO Line6 driver and make sure the "hardware monitor level" is at maximum. In your DAW, disable any track monitoring (to avoid out-of-phase with latency duplication of your live/direct signal in monitoring). The only monitoring (without any latency) you really need is: hardware monitoring (can be activated or deactivated only via the ASIO Line6 driver control panel). _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All about POD HD500/X help and useful tips
