thewonkydonkeys
Hi, PodGo newbie here, I've been a Helix LT user for quite some time and have acquired a brand new PodGo from a guitarist friend. My question is, if I manually copy all the blocks, setting for setting, one by one into the new User presets on the Podgo (allowing for the limitations of PodGo compared to Helix) I should end up with an almost exact copy, on my PodGo that I could use as a 'fly rig' for rehearsals or as a back up for live shows in the case of my Helix failing? Thanks in advance!
silverhead
It probably won’t sound exactly the same but it is the best way to start. I wouldn’t say that with other devices (e.g. POD HD to Helix) but the modeling technology is the same with the POD Go and Helix. I don’t know how the DSP chips compare technically and there may be other hardware differences (A/D and D/A converters?) that may matter. You may need to do some tweaking but it will be much better than starting from scratch. Of course, as you note, preset design limitations in the POD Go vs. Helix may be the biggest factor in creating tonal differences. I expect that for a simple preset that is 100% replicable in the POD Go it will sound very similar. I’d be interested in hearing the results of some tests. Please come back and let us know. voxman55
Even with comparable amp, cab and fx models and assuming DSP is within Pod Go parameters, tones will be similar but not exactly the same. Key differences are: 1. New cab engine in Helix v3. 5 that Pod Go doesn't yet have (but anticipated in forthcoming Pod Go v1. 50 in some form) 2. Notwithstanding the above, Helix already gave more mic control than just distance in Pod Go 3. Helix benefits from some tonal fidelity improvement from over sampling. Pod Go DSP allocation was already maximised so oversampling not possible. BTW, if you need more user fx slots, although DSP isn't increased, there are. Pgp patch files with modified JSON script available from face book groups and YouTube that will offer this with a trade off of swapping for something else eg fx loop or wah pedal etc. These are not hacks, are nothing to do with firmware, and are perfectly safe to use. Those on the FB Pod Go free patches group have been checked and are stable. Others may give odd results, but it's just for that patch only. thewonkydonkeys
Well, two and a half days transferring all my Helix settings to my Pod Go and levelling all the volumes and I think I'm there!! I'd just like to thank Silverhead and voxman55 who responded and gave me advice, its been a rapid but well worth while learning experience! I now have a working back up and rehearsal and fly rig! Thanks guys, much appreciated!
