dreamatt
Hi guys, I don’t want to give up but, I really have no idea why my hx stomp xl sounds so bad. I bought it just two days ago from a guy (so it’s used) but it’s in new condition, doesn’t have a scratch or so. I created three presets, clean, rhythm OD, and a lead, and except for the clean, everything sound really bad, like muffled in the lower strings and the classic “chug” sound it’s horrible. As a metal guy this is not conceivable. I obviously tried to EQ (on the amp, on the pedals, even in global EQ) but nothing really changed, it’s like a really dark sound. Even the classic Hendrix bending sounds electronic and 8 bit style. All this using amp gain or OD pedals as well. Plus, I tried different ways to hear the sound: directly into my y boss katana cabinet simulating the amp, directly into my audio interface hearing through monitors and headphones, and even from the headphones out of the hx stomp. But it sounds in any case so bad. My last chance is connecting directly to a PA, but I predict the result. Every person on this planet who has a hx stomp is happy, and on YouTube I heard so many beautiful tones from it, so it’s my unit problem? I hope not. Please if you had such a bad experience and you resolved, lemme know. Thanks
theElevators
Umm... try the factory presets first, then try your own stuff. If none of the factory presets sound normal, then you either have a defective device, or your PA has a problem.

Thanks Hi, First up, when asking for assistance it is advisable to give as much information as possible, eg: Firmware version that you have installed, type of guitar and p/ups used, and whatever you have it hooked up to, monitors, amp, external audio interface, etc. Right - when you bought the HX Stomp, did the previous owner wipe all his presets? Have you performed a "Factory Reset" on the unit to put it back to box fresh condition? Have you tried a fresh install of the latest v3.6 Firmware? If you haven't done the reset/install, give them a try and if there is no improvement, then report back. RESET - HX Stomp: Turn unit off and then turn back on. Hold Footswitches 2 and 3 as the unit boots up. Hope this helps/makes sense EDIT: You really should not need to to mess around with the Global EQ - it's not really a fix for your situation. It also might be advisable to have a read through this. https://line6.com/data/6/0a020a418962611d636e7c51b/application/pdf/HX Stomp 3.0 Owner's Manual - Rev D - English .pdf
