Pedals before and after HX One

It seems I'm too stupid to make the HX One work as I hoped.

I want to use filters/octavers/wahs etc before my drive pedals and everything else after my drive pedals.

How do I connect the HX One properly? No matter what I tried, it didn't work...as soon as the drive pedals are in the loop, they won't be heard (no matter the settings in the I/O section).

Would be great if someone can help out! Thanks

Not sure what you mean. There's no 'proper' way to connect the HX One other than placing it the chain along with your other pedals. Just make sure you are using it like any other stereo-capable pedal in terms of cabling.

Of course, to accommodate your personal preferences you may have to relocate it depending on which FX you want to use in the HX One. In other words, if you want to use a Filter FX model in the HX One then it seems you need it before the drive pedals. If you want to use a Chorus/Del/Reverb model you need it after your drive pedals. I don't think there's a magical setup that will allow you to virtually relocate the HX One. It's physical location is fixed until/unless you swap cabling.

I'm unclear - when you say the drive pedals won't be heard do you mean there is no sound at all, or that the sound does not seem right? Are they heard, or does the sound seem right, without the HX One in the loop at all? Or is it the introduction of the HX One, anywhere, that affects the drive pedal sound?

Thanks for your fast reply.

Actually, I thought the HX One is capable of being relocated with the 4-Cable-Method (just like the Möbius or the Synesthesia by GFI).

I would have thought that I can plug my drives into the loop of the HX One and decide per preset if I want it to come before or after the drive section in order to use it as a wah before drives or a reverb after drives depending on the settings of the preset.

Regarding the last part: no, I don't hear them at all.

yeah, and that's what I don't understand. I tried the following:

Guitar - 29 Pedals EUNA - Wah - POG - Origin Revival Drive

into HX One Input (L/Mono)

HX One In (R/Return) into first Drive

Output of last drive into HX One Out (L/Mono)

HX One Output (Right/Send) into rest of my board

I'm probably missing something but can't figure out what! :D

I presume that your entire pedalboard is placed in the preamp position. In other words, the final pedal on your board is connected to an amp’s guitar input and you are wondering where to place the HX One and how to hook it up? If so does that amp have an FX Loop? A later reply could be different based on your answer here.

In both of the above connections you have two input connections and two output connections joined together. An input into another input doesn’t work. Nor does an output into another output. That explains why your drive pedals are silent.

Try this:

Guitar - 29 Pedals EUNA - Wah - POG - Origin Revival Drive

into HX One Input (L/Mono)

HX One Output (Right/Send) into first Drive

Output of last drive into HX One In (R/Return)

HX One Out (L/Mono) into rest of my board

I think in this setup when your HX One is set to Post your HX One FX (Wah, filter…) will appear before your first drive pedal. When set to Pre your HX One FX (Mod, Delay, …) will appear after your last drive pedal.

But this is all theoretical; I don’t own an HX One to test with. I confess I am a bit confused by the Pre/Post terminology in the signal flow of the HX One.

Ah, yes! Now it works! Thanks a lot!

Everything on the terminology is confusing! The manual as well as the pre/post thing...

THANKS!!!

  • 7 months later...

Was wondering if I could bring the pedal in the loop in and out.

Example say I am using a separate fuzz pedal in the hx one fx loop and I want to place a univibe fx type from the hx one either before "pre" or after the fuzz pedal "post" and now lets say I want to then create a preset to use the phase shifter in the hx one but I want the fuzz to be bypassed so that the input into the hx one flows into the unit and out without the fuzz being a part of the circuit just like you can do in a source audio pedal.
