somebodyelse
I suppose the title says it all? Is it possible to do channel changing via the amp switching jack, is the gist of it. The effects switching is really redundant since the HX would be the way to go with this combination. I get that if the CX100 was used instead of the CX60, I could use MIDI, but I think the size of that amp might be too big for this scenario. rd2rk
Channel switching from the Ext Amp jack works fine with my Helix, can't imagine why it would be a problem with HXFX.

Thanks. Follow-up question, assuming I can get hold of a USB-B to USB-B cable, could the CX60 receive MIDI commands from the HX Effects? rd2rk
No. Neither of them is a "HOST" device. You would need to get a MIDI HOST box: Amazon.com: CAMOLA USB MIDI Host Box USB to MIDI Converter MIDI Interface : Everything Else You would connect the HXFX USB to the HOST, then connect the HOST's 5 pin MIDI Out to the CX. Hmmm? You've sort of answered my question - thanks. So, do you mean it'd need a MIDI/DIN to USB cable to connect to the Cat., since the CX60 doesn't have a MIDI socket...? I coming around to the idea that it would just be less hassle to get the CX100. Thanks again.
rd2rk
Sorry, answered before coffee! :-P The 5pin MIDI cable connects the HXFX to the 5pin MIDI IN of the HOST. The USB HOST port (USB A) of the HOST device connects to the Cat's USB B port. Yes, I always advise people who ask "60 vs 100" to get the 100 because they always end up in the same situation as you. Possible workaround if you're using this in a home studio - most any DAW can route MIDI, using your computer as HOST. If you don't have a DAW, download MIDIOX, which is the Swiss Army Knife of MIDI SW. It's FREE! Just connect both the Cat and the HXFX via USB to your computer and use the SW to route the signals.
somebodyelse
LOL...I did wonder if that might be the case. I'm a long time user of MIDIOX - it's been my 'go-to' for backing up my rackmount SYSEX files for... maybe 20 years? At the moment, I'm figuring out what would be the least complicated 'do it all' setup for my Dad... without spending crazy money.
JDMarch
You could skip the USB host option and get a raspberry pi 3 or higher (I've seen used for 5-20 bucks online) pi zero is 15.00 new (doesn't have full size ports) With the pi you have a full computer. You can route midi between USB, record audio, play or stream audio, use a sequencer, control the amp wirelessly. Possibilities are endless. I purchased the 100 for the midi in, but the 60 would of been fine. The midi in is only a midi in (for controllers) The USB is an Audio input, Audio output, Midi in, & Midi out for setting dumps Linux alsa (default sound system) can route midi with one command no extra software needed. aconnect -l Shows u device numbers on system aconnect <device from> <device to> Have it issue the command on start and your done

"Least complicated do it all setup" (from Line 6, that doesn't cost a fortune) for my Dad would be a CX100, HX Effects, three 1 meter 1/4" cables and a MIDI cable... ... if he'd let me, a Helix LT, my spare Powercab 112+ and an L6 Link cable would be the answer, since a store local to me is doing the LT for the same price as a CX100 + HXFX, at the moment. Importing presets that I write and email to him is about as involved as he wants to get.
JDMarch
I would be involved for initial setup but after that it would just turn on when the amp turns on with the midi routing you set to connect. Connect the cat USB and hx USB connected to the pi I'm going to hard wire a USB transformer right from where the power comes in and mount it in the speaker cab with the ports facing out. I don't want extra plugs I want it all self contained.
