Hello everybody.
I am happy to become part of the Helix community. I have a couple of starter questions if you have the patience for them.
Firstly how do I do a software update?
Secondly what's the best way to play a backing track into the LT that I can then play through my Blackstar amp and have it sounding good? I have used a NUX mg400 before buying the helix LT and that was straight forward. But the LT isn't so straight forward.
thankyou.

HI,

You're a little late to this party, but...

Go here,

https://line6.com/support/helix-minutes/

and then scroll down until you find a video with the title "Helix Minute: How to update a Helix device"

Later you can check though all the other videos which cover most aspects of the basic operations.

You can find a whole bunch of other stuff here to get you started.

https://line6.com/support/page/kb/tutorial-videos/line-6-video-tutorials-r202/

Hope this helps/makes sense.

Relative to a lot of the people on this forum - the Helix has been around a long time. And the questions you've asked have been answered (multiple times) in this and other forums (try the search funtion). There's a LOT of content on YouTube, Facebook etc that can help you will have to look for older material as the newer stuff is generally "whats this new feature". Suggest Jason Sadites as a great starting point. And, whilst none of us like to do it, read the manual - its a great resource.

There is no way to make the backing track sound good through an amp (through the LT or any other source) - it will always sound like its running through a guitar amp - some EQ will help a bit. You're better off having some form of seperate monitoring for the backing track - PA speaker(s), monitors, anything really.

Well, considering that the Helix floor was launched way back in 2015, when I bought mine, you are somewhat late to the family, especially as there has been a bunch of users clamouring for a Helix 2 for the past couple of years.

Also, take note of the comments from @waymda in the post above. If you are playing backing tracks over USB from a computer then anything you play through your Blackstar will sound like it is being played through a guitar amp. A decent pair of headphones would get you started, but not some rubbish “in ear” pod things - you would need something more accurate to monitor with - examples include Audio- Technica ATH-M50x, beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro, or any quality studio grade phones. If you are hooking up to a computer for audio, a reasonable pair of powered 5” near field studio monitor speakers will give even better results.

Hope this helps/makes sense.

Ok understood about the backing track and amp/pa speakers. But what's the best way to connect to the LT to play a YouTube backing track from a tv with 3.5mm jack out?

Hi again,

Hmm... You seem to be approaching this the wrong way entirely - Your HXLT is designed as a serious piece of audio gear that is not expected to be connected to a TV, especially one with a 3.5mm jack plug.

See this post from way back in 2015, shortly after the Helix was first released - specifically take note of the second post from Digital_Igloo (Eric Klein -Line 6 Chief Product Designer). Then check out the serious audio connection options that have been built into your LT to allow you to use it properly. Let's face it, you must have spent a fair amount of cash to acquire your HX device, but want to ruin the experience by hooking it up to something it is not designed to work with!

Also, Eric published this article, because so many people buy into using a professional digital device, but then don't use it as it is intended - much like you are wanting to do -  and then complain bitterly that their expensive toy doesn't sound right.

Please read this - and forget about patching into a TV.

Hope this helps/makes sense.
