Otis31
Hello fellow Stompers (XL) I have run across what I think is a glitch in the matrix and was wondering if someone else has come across this & if it could be pinned for a future update. During live performances I use Stomp Mode (6 switch) and I only use 3 consecutive presets. 31A "NAME-CLEAN", 31B "NAME-DIRTY", and 31C "NAME-FRETLESS". I clear all other presets for performances, and I use 31 because it is my "lucky number". Because I play in multiple acts, I use the naming convention BANDNAME dash DESCRIPTOR (no spaces). In order to be able to switch from any of the three presets to either of the other two presets, I use the following method. In preset 31A NAME-CLEAN, I use command center to assign preset 31C NAME-FRETLESS to footswitch 1, and assign 31B NAME-DIRTY to footswitch 3. This works great and all displays correctly and the footswitches glow red. In preset 31C NAME-FRETLESS, I use command center to assign preset 31B NAME-DIRTY to footswitch 1, and assign 31A NAME-CLEAN to footswitch 3. This works great and all displays correctly and the footswitches glow red. However, when I program 31B NAME-DIRTY, and use command center to assign preset 31A NAME-CLEAN to footswitch 1, and assign 31C NAME-FRETLESS to footswitch 3, the footswitches glow red but the names of the patches in the display get randomly mixed up (not the numbers)?? So the display might say 31A NAME-FRETLESS, but 31A is actually NAME-CLEAN As a workaround I assigned preset "previous" to footswitch 1 and preset "next" to footswitch 3, but then the footswitches don't glow red. As an experiment, I changed the names of the presets to remove the band name and dash, and left just CLEAN, DIRTY, and FRETLESS, and this solved the problem. Names display properly and the footswitches glow red, but I lose my naming convention. Not a super huge deal, just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. rd2rk
Works fine on my HXS which, as far as Command Center goes, is identical to HXSXL. In 31A I assigned FS1 to 31B and FS2 to 31C. In 31B I assigned FS1 to 31A and FS2 to 31C. In 31C I assigned FS1 to 31A and FS2 to 31B. Attached example presets. silverhead
This might simply be a name-length limitation imposed by Helix. If your BANDNAME is lengthy it could occupy most of the max length of a preset name leaving little or nothing left to distinguish among names within the LT. Try abbreviations for your band name and see if it helps. Not likely the issue I admit, but maybe worth a try. Oldtimers like me remember the early days when it was common for name lengths to be restricted to 6 or 8 characters to save expensive and scarce memory space. I might have had to choose the name ‘slvrhd’!
Otis31
Thanks everyone for your comments. I have been playing around today and tried a few things. If there is a hyphen or a space, then the issue occurs. No spaces or hyphens, no issue. I haven't tried other special characters. I also tried renaming using maximum length for a name, no spaces or special characters, and no issue. Again not a super big issue but thought I would put it our there. @Edward357Johnson I will report to the developers even though it is minor, it could be easily fixed or at least noted somewhere. You've done a great job troubleshooting the problem by experimenting with different name formats and identifying a workaround, even though it doesn't completely solve the issue. Given the detailed steps you've provided, this does seem like it could be a glitch. It might be worth reporting this to the developers for a future update. In the meantime, if you haven't already, you might want to try reaching out to the Stompers community or support team for any additional insights or potential fixes. Sometimes, there might be a firmware update or a specific setting adjustment that can resolve these kinds of issues. How would I go about reporting this to the developers? Did you try the presets I provided? If you did and the issue persists, then: Perform a factory reset - backup first! Reinstall the firmware - backup first! If the issue still persists, then possibly the HXSXL has a problem that my HXS does not, as my HXS has no problem with hyphens. This might be useful info when you open your support ticket.
