rwinking
I am still experimenting with using acoustic guitars with my Stomp XL, Here is my current issue: I have an acoustic and a baritone acoustic, both set up with the Dimarzio Black Angel system. Piezo and Magnetic TRS out and then each into it's own stereo preamp (which blends the signals as I like them....) and then out mono, one to my Powercab and the other to my Stomp XL. Right now I am using two separate TRS cables. It would be great to have a TRS to two TRS switching box. I can find a few that can do the TRS in to two TRS outs but they don't seem to have a footswitch. It seems like it would be a pain to mute one preamp, unmute the other when I could have footswitch that directs the signal to one or the other. Any ideas? I found a company in Canada called wounded paw audio that someone said could build me one but I haven't heard back yet. thanks in advance rick
Schmalle
HX Stomp can handle all your requirements: it has four inputs: L In, R In, L Return, R Return. No need for an external preamp (unless you use long cables between Stomp and the guitars on noisy stages and need buffers). With two TRS -> 2x TS split adapter cables you could use L+R In for one guitar, L+R Return for the other. Mixing the pickups can be done with the Pan block. Chosing the guitar can be done with chosing IN vs Return in the Input block (turn the lower knob). If you have one patch with the IN as input and another with Return then changing the patch is changing the guitar (unmutes one, mutes the other). rwinking
Thanks so much for all of your help. I do realize that I could use the Stomp XL (or maybe even my HX FX?) for all three instruments. However, the Grace Felix is the ultimate in an instrument preamps for me. So with the Dimarzio split signal from the piezo and magnetic and then separate channels of massive EQ on the Grace for each, I think I would rather use the Stomp more for FX. Besides, I have never liked the Line 6 EQs that much. Maybe operator error, but they seem a little too subtle for me. Maybe the Line 6 Stadium will someday be able to capture the Grace stuff? rwandering
Assuming the guitars are only played one at a time, is there a reason they have to remain plugged in? I use silent guitar cables and unplug/replug the guitar when I switch. I don't need a foot switch mute for that.
rwinking
Each guitar is assigned to a separate preamp/EQ. This way, I have a separate EQ for the baritone and the regular guitar.I will use the same TRS cable for both guitrs and then the switch will change which preamp it goes to. The EQ for the Baritone is so different from the D-18 for sure.
rwandering
Oh, sorry, I missed an important point: dual outputs over TRS from the guitar. I don't know if they have silent TRS connectors like that. FWIW, I have a PRS with two separate TS jacks, and built a cable with two silent connectors for that. I get away without a switch. The other guitar is a single piezo pickup (also with a silent connector on its cable). I put both of the piezos into a Radial JDI (merged), and send the output to the PA. The magnetic from the PRS goes into the HX Stomp XL guitar input. When I switch guitars, I unplug them just so there is no noise (or feedback) from them.
