HX Stomp stuck on boot up screen

My HX Stomp will not boot up, it gets stuck on the boot-up screen. I used the Line-6 updater program to update to firmware 3.80.0 and it worked till the next time I shut down the Stomp. Now when I turn the HX Stomp back on it gets stuck on the boot up screen.

I have reupdated the 3.80.0 firmware 20+ times and use different USB cables, and USB ports but nothing has helped. I also did the factory reset (hold down the 2 & 3 buttons and turn the unit on), the forced reset (hold down the right page button and turn on), and the reset of the whole unit (hold down 1, 2, & 3 buttons and turn on) but it still will not boot up past the start-up screen.

This is a new unit, so I do not have anything else loaded on the HX Stomp, only what came with it from the factory.

Empty headingThanks for the link. I have done what you posted multiple times over the last two days both in manual & on-line mode with no luck. My update did not fail, I get a screen saying the update was successful and on the auto reboot after the update it will only load to boot screen, I even let to set for over an hour before turning it off and trying again.

Hopefully support will get back with me soon, I just got this thing yesterday and never got to use it.

Hi, again.

A couple of points, just to clarify things. The more info we have, the better the chance of figuring out a solution.

You unpacked the HX Stomp and went straight to updating the firmware without checking everything worked first? Yes/no.

If it was working, and now it doesn’t then the issue is most likely due to a glitch in the software, rather than a hardware problem, and very rarely would that turn your HX into a paperweight.

You have said that you have tried to reinstall the firmware several times without success, by using the reboot with footswitches held down for Factory Reset, and Clear Presets/IRs/Everything. You didn’t mention, if before you tried the reinstall, you rebooted holding down the Page > button, which puts the device into “Update Mode”.

It’s also a big help to know what computer and operating system you’re using. Plus, during the update, did you ensure that you had disconnected anything that may cause any interference with the installation, e.g. - other USB, internet connections, background apps running.

NOTE: The attachments you have provided are empty generic .php files. If you are uploading a picture, please ensure it is in an acceptable format and has a name - “example” pic, jpeg etc.

Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi and thanks for trying to help.

I updated the firmware right out of the box first thing, all went well, I then did a factory reset to get the factory presets back, all went well. I did use the HX Stomp going through some of the factory presets testing them out and all was fine. I did go to the global settings and turned off the TAP light button (I hate the constant button flashing), I turned the stomp off to eat dinner and when I got back and turned it back on that's when it would not load past the startup screen. I'm using the line-6 power supply that came in the box.

Yes, I have used the right page button and power on switch to force it into Update Mode, that's the only way I can now.

I'm using a Windows 11 laptop computer, 32G of RAM, and a I-9 Ultra chip. I have turned off just about anything that I could think of during the update that I could think of including my anti-spyware program. I have used 4 different USB ports with 2 different cables as well.

After the firmware update I always get a screen that says the update was successful but, on the auto, restart the stomp will not load past the start-up screen.

I've been trying to upload the picture that shows the correct firmware build that I'm updating to but it's not showing. It was a JPG, so I changed to a JPEG, hope it works this time. I never posted a picture in here before so I'm sure that's on my end.

Thanks

Dave

Hi Dave,

At last a photo - Phew, plus lots more info, now we maybe getting somewhere.

Quote: "After the firmware update I always get a screen that says the update was successful but, on the auto, restart the stomp will not load past the start-up screen."

O.K. I realise that this may seem obvious, but looking at the photo, you say the red boot indicator line move across the screen and then it just stays there, correct?

I notice that the picture show that a USB cable is connected to the HX. Have you tried to boot the device without the USB connection? If not try the Factory Reset (FS2&3) and/or the Clear All (FS1,2,&3) procedures without the USB connected and the switches held down until you see the message indicating that the reset is beginning. USB can be notoriously flakey at times, and it has been noted that when doing a Firmware Update through the Line 6 Updater Utility using a downloaded local file, it is best to remove the USB cable for around 30/40 seconds before trying to connect again.

If you get no further, then you will just have to wait for a response from Customer Service. Don't worry, because your unit is under warranty and should be simply a matter of getting it replaced for one that does work.

Hope this helps/makes sense.

Thanks for your help datacommando. Yes, the red line moves all the way to the end of the screen on boot up and stops at the end, that's as far as anything will go.

I removed the USB cord and tried to boot as well, in both positions again just to make sure. (Factory Reset (FS2&3), (Clear All (FS1,2,&3). Same problem.

Looks like I'll have to wait on CS to reach out to me now.

Thanks for trying to help out.

Dave.
