Expression pedal breaking on Helix floor LT

It looks more robust on the Stadium.  I think the main thing that caused breaking on the LT is stepping on the pedal to switch between EXP 1/ EXP 2.  I personally avoid doing that and have never had an issue with my 6 year-old LT.  There are ways to switch on the wah without stomping on the pedal by using the percentage engagement, or to have the wah enabled in certain snapshots only.

While it's a workaround, I personally prefer these methods to turn on/off wah as needed. find that the EXP pedal always requires too much force to accomplish the switching, and it's a lot easier to do what I described, to me at least.  I even found a way to disable the switching all together for live use by connecting a short 1/4" cable from the external pedal jack to one of the send jacks so the switching is disabled, thus short-circuiting it and having Helix think that EXP 2 is connected (while it's not)--so the switching is disabled.  I never had a use case to need to switch between the two expression modes for my very involved presets.  In some presets I used the same expression pedal to control different things depending on which snapshot I'm in, for example: delay, reverb, wah, panning.  All in one single preset.

Hi,

Me and some guys I know all have the same problem.
The expression pedal on our Line 6 Helix Floor LT has broken on the inside.

My question is: Will the expression pedal on the Stadium XL be better quality or does it have the same mounting?

I hope someone who knows the answer can help me.

Hi,

This is a user to user forum. There are no Line 6 staff here and only very occasionally do they visit these forums - (See the “sticky comment” in the black banner stripe at the top of this page entitled “Welcome to the Line 6 forums”).

Regarding the faulty LT Expression pedals - IIRC, there was a spate of broken EXP incidents with the early production run of the Helix LT unit. At the time, anyone who had this issue was advised to contact Customer Support, and the faulty item was replaced. This stuff is generally covered by the warranty, and I’m surprised that you haven’t taken steps to have the problem fixed. Maybe a little late now to get a free fix?

Anyhow, this problem never happened with the Helix floor, which is constructed from chunky aluminium, and looking at the extruded aluminium case and folded steel base on the Helix Stadium XL - I wouldn’t worry. There is even a separate pedal available - the EX2 - which is described thus “*sturdy cast aluminium chassis and treadle ensure reliable performance”.

I guess they don’t intend to cut any corners on this one, but you pay your money and take a chance.

Anyhow, you really shouldn’t worry because it will be covered by warranty - if you could be bothered to follow it up.

Use it, or lose it!

Hope this helps makes sense.
