Line 6 Stadium XL – When can we expect a truly stable professional product?

Hello,

I am a professional musician based in France, performing several times a week on stage. I purchased the Stadium XL about six months ago because I believed it was designed as a professional-grade product.

I use the unit extensively and rely on many of its features during live performances:

  • Amp modeling

  • Songs feature

  • MIDI automation for lighting control

  • Complex footswitch assignments

While the amp modeling side is excellent, I am honestly disappointed by the current state of the Songs feature and some MIDI-related functions.

The Songs feature still feels unfinished. The most critical issue is the click track stability. In my experience, the click is not always reliable, especially during the first two measures of a song. For a device marketed as professional equipment, this is simply unacceptable. Live performers need absolute confidence in timing and synchronization.

Another major problem is song editing. If you need to modify or add a track within an existing song, the workflow is extremely cumbersome. In many cases, you end up having to recreate all locators, MIDI messages, and related programming from scratch. This is time-consuming and frustrating.

We should be able to:

  • Add a track without rebuilding the entire song structure

  • Reorder or move tracks easily

  • Edit songs without having to recreate all locators and MIDI events

I have also encountered bugs related to footswitches, particularly when sending MIDI commands. In a live environment, reliability is not optional.

Considering the price of the Stadium XL, I think users are entitled to ask a simple question:

When can we expect a stable, mature, and truly professional version of the software?

I bought this product because it promised to be a complete live-performance solution. At the moment, some key features still feel like work in progress.

I genuinely want to keep using the Stadium XL, but if stability and workflow issues continue, I will eventually have to consider alternative solutions from competing manufacturers.

I would be interested to hear whether other professional users are experiencing the same issues.

Interesting.

Are you actually using Songs with the internal click track and MIDI events during live gigs?

My issue isn't with the amp side of the unit. It's specifically the Songs feature. The click doesn't always seem perfectly stable, especially during the first two measures.

Just trying to determine whether this is a bug affecting only some users or if others are seeing the same thing.

FYI - I can't work out if you're using white font on a white background, but unless I select your posts they show as blank space.

As an OG Helix owner since about 12 months since their release, I expect 12-18 months of ongoing bug fixing of the Stadium firmware as a minimum. For that reason I have not migrated, and won't for some time.

Why do I think that?

  • The release was rushed - L6 asked 'the community' if they wanted it perfect or early. The community said 'now' which fits the  "you can have it quick, cheap or good, choose two" paradigm - its not cheap as a unit but in terms of development effort that appears to have been the choice.
  • The OG hardware took a number of years to mature and it only models hardware, no playback functions, no will manage everything on stage for you capability (that appeared and matured a few years in) - while L6 has the OG as a starting point, the firmware and hardware is new, and the Song stuff is completely new. If you were about for early update processes you'd know how painful and fraught that was.
  • Song functionality was not available from day 1, and again appears to have been rushed out to placate consumers. A new (from scratch) feature on new hardware was never going to be perfect from release.

This is just my view, and doesn't help you now, but gives a perspective. If you're interested, look back through the OG forums and see how long it took for the OG to mature. It was not quick.

  • Thanks 1

Thank you for your perspective.  I actually agree with most of what you're saying. I understand that the Stadium is a new platform and that complex products take time to mature. I've worked with enough technology over the years to know that development is never as simple as users would like it to be.  My concern is not so much the existence of bugs in general. What worries me more is the click track stability. To me, that's a fundamental feature for live performance.  I can understand advanced editing features, workflow improvements, or even some MIDI functions needing time to mature. But when a musician relies on an internal click during a show, it has to be rock solid every single time.  A drum machine from 20 years ago could deliver a stable click, so I don't think it's unreasonable to expect the same from a modern professional device at this price point.  That said, I appreciate the feedback from everyone here. It's helpful to know that some users are having a better experience than I am, and hopefully future firmware updates will continue to improve the Songs functionality and overall stability.  Because honestly, the amp modeling is outstanding, and I'd love to see the rest of the platform reach that same level of maturity.
