Future of POD Studio/TonePort interfaces with POD Farm 2 after authorization shutdown

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I would like to gather feedback from other POD Studio and TonePort users regarding the recent end of hardware authorization support by Line 6.

I own a POD Studio GX and a valid POD Farm 2.5 Standard license.

My situation:

  • POD Farm 2.5 license is valid and works correctly on my computer.

  • The POD Studio GX hardware is fully functional and works with other audio applications.

  • However, when the GX is connected, POD Farm can no longer use the license because the old hardware authorization system is no longer available.

Line 6 support confirmed that:

  • POD Studio/TonePort interfaces (GX, UX1, UX2, etc.) can no longer be authorized.

  • License Manager has been retired.

  • The recommended solution is to use another audio interface with the new POD Farm 2 license.

I appreciate that Line 6 provided a replacement POD Farm 2 license. However, this means that owners of perfectly working POD Studio/TonePort hardware must now purchase another interface to replace a device that still functions.

I would like to know:

  • How many POD Studio/TonePort owners are affected by this?

  • Did anyone find a workaround?

  • Do you think Line 6 should provide an official solution allowing these interfaces to continue working with POD Farm?

  • Are there users interested in contacting consumer organizations or requesting a clearer solution from Line 6?

Please share your experience, model (GX, UX1, UX2, TonePort), operating system, and current situation.

The goal is not to attack Line 6, but to understand how many users are affected and whether a better solution can be found for owners of still-functional hardware.

Thank you.

I wonder the same... cause the solution is pretty simple, rework in pod farm so the authentification of the license comes from the new app Line 6 Center and stop asking the permission of License Manager... but we can only wait for the company to solve this situation... meanwhile I have to use my new fast computer without my UX2 and use my old slow laptop with the UX2 hoping it doesn´t stop working which is quiet annoying tbh

I don't lose the license itself, but the hardware-based license can no longer be used with my GX because it's no longer possible to authorize the interface.

Line 6 kindly provided me with a standard POD Farm 2 license as a replacement, but that now requires me to buy a different audio interface.

That's the part I find difficult to accept. It effectively forces me to purchase new hardware even though both my hardware and my licenses are still perfectly valid. The only problem is that the hardware can no longer be authorized.

As a result, I can no longer use POD Farm with my GX at all. Since I hadn't planned or budgeted to replace my audio interface, my POD Farm license is essentially useless to me as well.  :(

I could understand it if Line 6 stopped developing drivers for the interface, and the latest windows or Mac. That happens with almost every interface at some point. Can you still use the interface with the latest operating software and another product like Amplitube, but just can't authorise it to work with Pod Farm? What if you were using an older operating software? If you can't authorise on any operating software, that would be quite unusual. That would mean that my Pod farm platinum license which is tied to the interface, would never work again. Can't think of any other company's that would do that and it would seem unfair to say the least.

Unfortunately, that's exactly the case. The drivers still work perfectly up to Windows 11, and I would completely understand if they were no longer supported on future operating systems.

What I deeply regret and find profoundly unfair is that the hardware is still fully recognized (and still works perfectly with GearBox), yet I can no longer authorize it with my Pod Farm license.

As "compensation," Line 6 offered me a new Pod Farm license that is tied to my computer instead of my audio interface. However, in order to keep using it, I now have to buy a new audio interface.

That was the support team's response after I opened a support ticket.

In my opinion, this amounts to forced selling and is bordering on being unlawful. I wonder what a consumer protection organization would have to say about it.

  • 3 weeks later...

I think I did the authorization on my new PC when it still worked. But I got the message randomly a couple of months ago and when I tried to do it it failed. My UX2 still works with POD Farm though. Running windows 10.

I wonder what happens when someone wants to upgrade to platinum. Is it a waste of money? You know, since it doesn't work anymore.
