ertiti
Hi. I’ve just bought an HX Stomp and I’d really like to be able to integrate external amp/capture plugins such as Tone3000 and NAM captures running on an iPad or MacBook into the HX Stomp signal chain. So far, the most I’ve managed to do is send the processed signal to the iPad, prevent the clean signal from being heard by adjusting the gain, and then bring the processed signal back into the HX Stomp, which is not ideal, but just a work-around, but I’m not able to process that returned signal with any other HX effects. well, something is something i guess. Would it be technically possible to implement a more flexible bidirectional USB routing or digital insert in a future firmware update, so that the signal could be sent to a plugin, returned digitally to the Stomp, and then continue through the HX effects chain? This would make the HX Stomp much more powerful for integrating Tone3000, NAM and other external processing. I really like the unit and think it’s a great product. Do you have any plans to implement something like this in a future firmware update? Cheers
rd2rk
This is a user-to-user support forum. Nobody from L6 hangs out here. Also, the Helix/HX series is nearing EOL with the new Stadium series release, so it's not likely that any major changes are going to be implemented. That said, both ToneX and NAM apps have very nice post processing FX (modulation, delay, reverb) and I really don't think you'd gain much using the equivalent HX FX. TBH, your best bet for ToneX is to look for a good deal on an OG ToneX Pedal (the big one). That's what I use, in the HXS FX Loop. There should be lots available now that the ToneX Board has been released. As for NAM, Genome runs GREAT on my iPad and has great FX. ertiti
Cheers mate, thanks for replying. I was on the fence between hx stomp and headrush flex prime, but then i read about 5 or 6 ms of latency from the headrush, and i hate latency. But given the fact that i get 7 to 10ms or more with this hx/ipad setup, the 6 ms don't bother me as much. i'm still in trial time with the hx so i'm going to see if i can get some good tones from it and then see if i keep it, because one thing is for certain: it's size is very convinient. Also this end of life thing's got me pissed. It wouldn't be the first time i got an EOL device and right away the new version of it came out with better features. We'll see. Cheers. rd2rk
There's no new version of the HXS, and no announced plans for one. The Stadium is $1800-$2200 depending on the model, and not as small as the HXS. Thru latency with HXS is <>3.5ms. If your only criteria is NAM, then HR might be the way to go, but I have to wonder how you're measuring the HXS/iPad latency? I can't feel the difference 3-4ms makes, but some people are just more sensitive to latency than others.

Apart from all the things mentioned already, this would be a latency nightmare. The HX devices have pretty bad interface drivers.
