J840
Anyone using midi over usb on HX stomp? I can’t get it to work, have midi settings set to USB in the unit, but no luck. Trying to use with a Morningstar MC3. It works with normal DIN midi cable.
Schmalle
Works for me. Check Global Settings > MIDI/Tempo > USB MIDI, MIDI PC Rx, MIDI PC Tx.
J840
Yes, I've tried setting globals to USB/MIDI and even just USB. The odd thing is if I select USB only, the HX still receives messages through the midi DIN port. What USB host are you using? I have the CME H2MIDI Pro. rd2rk
Working fine for me. If USB MIDI is ON and MIDI PC Rx is set to USB, and both the MC3 and HXS are set to MIDI Channel 1, connect the MC3 USB to your computer and use a MIDI MONITOR to see what's being sent. If you don't have a MIDI Monitor, you can use this free web based monitor: Disaster Area Designs MIDI Monitor
J840
I route the MC3 through the CME USB interface so that's what I selected in the midi monitor. If I select MC3, it shows the same messages, PC 48 for channel 1 (HX is on channel 1). In the CME editor, I have the output of the MC3 going to input of HX, but it doesn't change anything on the HX. If I route the MC3 to the midi output instead and use regular midi cables, it works correctly. It seems like a glitch with the HX and the USB interface. I've tried lots of different routings and different usb cables, but still stuck. It's not a big deal, but I'm curious what's going on. rd2rk
What's all that "System Exclusive" stuff? All you should be seeing is PROGRAM CHANGE (Channel 1): 48. If all that stuff is hitting the HXS, who knows what it's doing? It's possible to overwhelm a MIDI device with extraneous noise messages. J840
I think the system exclusive stuff was from the CME program being open, I should have closed it. It's normal messages now (this is a different preset with a few CC's added); still not working over USB though. It works fine and good with DIN, I can work with that easy enough. Schmalle
Set the monitor to HX Stomp XL MIDI and observe. Make the Stomp send MIDI data e.g. change a preset on the unit (while Global Settings > MIDI/Tempo > MIDI PC Tx is on).
J840
I did try that also. Plug HX directly into computer, select HX in midi monitor, nothing shows up when I change presets. In HX globals, USB midi is on, PC Tx is on. I tried OMNI for all channels if that was an issue, nothing. I would think if the HX is being recognized in the midi monitor, it should transmit the PC change messages.

Exactly. You've not specified your OS yet. I'm on Linux and the Stomp 'just works' as a MIDI and sound device. Maybe a Windows quirk? Is HX Edit or another program using the MIDI device while testing?
J840
I'm on Windows 11 home edition. No, I didn't have HX edit or other midi app's open when I connected HX directly. It works normal as an audio interface via usb and HX edit is good also. I have a support ticket in with L6, will see what they think.
