lalka_ebasos
somebody tried pod hd desktop as audio interface and works in DAWS(cubase, reaper and others)? what about latency in comparison with pod x3? i using pod x3 as audio interface and enjoy it. I want to try pod hd desktop but I doubt.
TheRealZap
i've used both, you won't have any issues with the pod HD. the usb streams are limited, but the driver performance and latency is entirely comparable.
Dshow
What are the values you get for latency? I'm not able to get a good latency value I would expect from a professional gear. I mean for recording it ist OK but if you use it as audio Interface there is too much latency. I get 5,238ms for the Input and 10.567ms for the output (with lowest buffer size). Which sums up to ~ 16ms this is way too much - Go0d drivers work with a latency around 2ms. I wanted to try out to use the POD HD500 as audio interface in Cubase and use the sounds for the S-Gear 2 PlugIn. There is a really noticable latency which is not fun to play with and you never can get a good feeling.
silverhead
You should get near zero latency if you use the HD500 for monitoring. Connect your headphones/monitors to the HD500 outputs and disable software monitoring in your DAW.
bjnette
That is true for first take, any overdubs you gotta monitor the mix. I found the USB to be fine regarding latency on a few audio overdubs, Guitar, Bass and Vocals using only a drum synth. Early i7 with Win7. I didn't notice any difference than using my firewire interface. Might be noticable with much more tracks though.
silverhead
I've never noticed any latency when overdubbing with a Pod HD - desktop, pro, or 500. But like you I generally only have a few tracks playing back. Even if your full mix has many tracks you don't need them all for overdubbing. Dshow
As for monitoring the POD works fine, but did you try it as Interface to play with an Software like S-Gear 2 or Amplitube...? I mean not recording but actually play. I take an empty preset with the volume all up and go take the sounds from S-Gear to play with. There is a really noticable latency. TheRealZap
that's your computer processing the software. I've recorded using plugins (which is even higher latency than standalone software) etc... sometimes it's noticeable, but generally workable. you cannot eliminate latency completely in any interface... you should be getting better numbers than what you're seeing... BUT... that's a bold statement because the biggest variable is your computer of which i know nothing about... and even if i did... it's not always the fastest cpu, memory, hard drives etc... sometimes it's chipset and more obscure hadware factors that play into it. if you machine is a laptop for example.... it could have an "energy efficient" hard drive (to prolong battery life) but that equates to slow performance etc.... which would manifest itself poorly when recording audio. Dshow
Thanks for the reply TheRealZap. I have installed the software on my Laptop, which works fine for recording. Maybe I should try it on my desktop at work, that's a pretty actual PC (16GB Ram...) ;-)
