I like to use ASIO4ALL because I use Virtual Audio Cable to route my processed DAW sound to other applications for live application. It works well with my M-AUDIO Fast Track Pro, with reaper reporting a 4ms round trip latency. I know that ASIO4ALL isn't exactly meant for that, but I've found it great for that.

I believe IRs use a bit of processing power. Using an IR in Guitar Rig 5 jumps the CPU meter to 8-10% already on my computer. Unless they can optimize that, it might be a bit much, especially with the DSP limit thing.
-
Ok thanks, sorry I misread your post. So I was right, you assign the inputs onto 2 channels. That's not bad. It would be nice to upgrade from 2 inputs to maybe 4 or more, but 2 is fine. If ASIO4ALL works out, I can use my M-Audio as well. I've been using ASIO4ALL to tie in multiple devices. I know it's recommended to use default ASIO drivers, but obviously those won't let me use multiple devices together unless the ASIO driver itself supports that.
-
Huh? You can't assign the output directly to the DAW? I figure I would use ASIO4ALL to allow me to use the HD500 and Virtual Audio cable in conjunction. Basically: 500 input -> DAW --> 500 monitoring output .............................\-> Virtual Audio Cable input
-
Hm, let me rephrase my question. How many audio channels would show up with the POD HD500 in a DAW? Sometimes audio devices combine inputs. Will I have 6 separate channels altogether?
-
I am aware. I have an M-Audio Fast Track Pro with Midi In. I think CC information will do fine. Thanks. I guess I just need to buy a MIDI cable when I get my 500.
-
2 outputs is fine, but I was just wondering how the inputs would work with a DAW. I know some audio interfaces are sometimes limited. Also, does anyone know if they can use ASIO4ALL with the POD HD500? I like to use ASIO4ALL to route outputs to Virtual Audio Cable in my DAW.
-
How many inputs can you use at once with the HD500? I'm looking to use it as a new Audio Interface, and my current interface has 2 inputs at once. I need at least 2 inputs or more at once, for mic and guitar.
-
Hi, how many of the switches can you assign to be midi controllers? Does that also include the expression pedal? I wanted to use an expression pedal with something like Amplitube for a long time but I always thought any lone solution was overpriced.
-
I honestly haven't touched POD Farm though since I've gotten it. It has some nice features, but I don't really like the amp modeling. It's nice for it's time, but obviously amp modeling has improved drastically since then, and I'm glad Line 6 realized that and updated their modeling as well. I'd rather not pay for something that I'm not going to use besides the Variax features. By the way, can the 500 be used as a midi controller to control VSTs? I REALLY need a MIDI expression pedal. I was going to get a FBV but I think a 500 will be more worth it.

I don't usually use dual tones anyways. More of a 1 amp at a time guy. It can make some killer tones sometimes to blend 2 amps, but I prefer the tone to be consistent. Thanks for the info. I'm personally definitely getting a HD500 over an X3. I prefer to get nice modeling and variax features, instead of getting a hardware version of something I already have that I don't really use (Pod Farm)
-
Lame. (Sorry for a bit off topic) Definitely getting a regular 500 then. It's too much anyways. I've seen some plain 500's run for 300 on ebay. I've been hearing about some DSP limit stuff which is kind of disappointing, but I mostly use VST plugins anyway. I could probably use those together with the HD500.
-
If you're on a budget I'd try to get one from ebay, they run around 300, so you save about 200 dollars. It's what I'm probably gonna do, because I really want a HD500 for Variax use and as a new audio interface. I thought I'd get some killer modeling while I'm at it, since I already have POD Farm and that's the same modeling as an older model POD.
-
Are you using POD Farm? If you're not using any effects on your computer, you don't need to use guitar->GX->Amp. But if you are, you probably should be using a reamp device, unless your amp has some way to accept line-level input. The 500 beats the old POD stuff by a loooong shot. I had a GX that came with POD Farm, which was essentially the old POD modeling in software form. I wasn't very satisfied with it, compared to present day modeling technology. It was good back then, but it's outdated imo. You can get decent tones, but the HD series really steps it up and sounds incredible. I used to have a GX, and I liked how low the noise levels were, but it crapped out on me in under a year so I replaced it with an M Audio Fast Track Pro. You can use the POD HD as both a multiFX and an audio interface though, so if you ever want to record stuff on a computer, or jam out on an amp, you have both options. One more thing: The POD HD has features that work with your Variax so you can control the Variax in certain ways, like switch patches on the guitar that you put in the POD HD, or do alternate tunings. You need a VDI cable to do this though. The POD X3 has some Variax features, but not nearly as many as the HD.

Jtv Guitar Stand?
clay-man replied to gravesleo's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
The jack plate's edge will sit on the side of one of the bottom bars of a basic stand.. It'll be fine. -
I think you might have a hardware problem then. I had one on mine, and I reduced the global string volume to about 50-60% on all of it (the sound was too loud anyways and my interface said the Variax was clipping). I think it's a given that you should adjust the string volume so that natural clipping doesn't occur, but the clipping we're talking about is a different type of clipping and doesn't just overdrive the signal, but makes a weird quacking noise. Like I said, it might be a hardware problem.

If you're getting really bad quacking noise from your guitar (not just a strat-esque quack, but like a really big poppy sound on the attack of your pick) Then there might be a problem with your guitar, and not just the firmware. I've had this problem, and I had to reduce the string volume a bit to get rid of it. I'm not sure if it will work on 2.0/JTVs though. Can you post a clip of what it sounds like?

I just feel like the old acoustic sounds far from a mic'd acoustic. The tone is great, but the acoustics are more or less referenced as a mic'd acoustic sound. I think the new acoustic sounds accomplish the tonality of a mic'd acoustic that the old ones couldn't get. Some frequencies on the new acoustics are a little wonky, like the high end was lacking when I heard the 1.8 update. That's easily fixable through EQing though, which is what you normally do to accomplish a preferred acoustic tone. I can EQ my Variax 600 to sound like it has more body like a mic'd acoustic, but there's still a lot of tonal differences that make it obvious that it's not mic'd, but the new acoustics honestly sound convincingly like a mic'd guitar. I kind of prefer the tonality of a mic'd acoustic over a plugged in one, and it's nice for when I want to use the Variax over a real mic'd acoustic to track acoustic parts on a song.

Major question I have for the JTV. If it does, that would mean you could basically use preview mode as a temporary alt tuning mechanism, which is great. If I ever upgrade I think the alt tuning knob would be a major +, since I use a vast amount of tunings and don't like wasting banks on the model knob for alternate tunings of duplicate guitars, but am forced to have to without the tuning knob feature. Can someone answer my question please?

Yeah, I liked the amp setting you had on the Les Paul. Great lead tone. I know you did a bit of tone tweaking but I just feel like the acoustics sound incredibly real. I'm guessing it requires a bit of EQ tweaking for a good live/band setting though. That's what most Acoustic tracks need though. I just think it sounds remarkably close to when I mic my acoustic with my AT2020.
