Best Graphtech Nut For My 600?
clay-man replied to clay-man's topic in Variax Guitars / Bass / Workbench
I specifically want a new nut for trem problems. This plastic one isn't cutting it. It rendered the tremolo system useless. Another problem I have is that if it's floating, it doesn't return to zero point. I could probably get a Mag-Lok for that. I'd like to be able to use the trem. I'm not a heavy trem user either, but there's thing I'd like to do with it. If it's there, it should be useable. using the trem with string bends is impossible, and trying to adjust the trem to work without bends is already not perfect and usually goes out of tune on a few strings anyways. My current setup is to basically not use the trem and have the strings stretched out as much as I can between the nut and the saddles so that bends don't make the tuning go out. It works, but what's the point of having a tremolo if I do that? -
Which is the best nut for me to get for my 600? Is there any predefined nuts I can get or do I have to get a blank one?

Tremolo Setscrew Size? Need Replacement

Can anyone please help? I just need help from a 600 or 700 tremolo user. -
Tremolo Setscrew Size? Need Replacement
clay-man posted a topic in Variax Guitars / Bass / Workbench
Anyone know the setscrew measurements? Mine fell out and I can't find it. Looked as hard as I can, nothing. I hate my tremolo moving around really freely. Just tight enough to stay in place but just loose enough to swing it easily. -
I think the 600 and 700 are the highest end guitars of the old Variax line. 700 might be a bit better than the 600. The 600 is more of a Fender Strat while the 700 is more of a Super Strat, with a bit of a Les Paul design influence. bad VDI cable can be true, though. Mine likes to disconnect from workbench if I pull it out a bit even if it's still latched in.

Line 6 Pod Farm 2.5 For Free
clay-man replied to DevonSteelman's topic in POD Farm / POD Studio / TonePort
I don't see the problem. Let people try it. It's honestly getting slowly overshadowed by other amp sim software. I'd say do POD Farm HD, but I'm sure that would maybe hurt their POD HD sales or might be too much for computers to handle. -
Variax Vs Jtv Processsor
clay-man replied to arislaf's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
That might not be processor speed and just the read speed of the flash memory. It's like saying "why does this SD card go slow when my CPU is fast?" I think the lag between pickup selections is amazing already. -
Can I Eq Models With Workbench?
clay-man replied to snegdirb's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
There is no graphic band EQ in workbench. You can however back up pickups closer towards the bridge if they're too bassy, and/or raise the cap values on the tone pots. That will brighten the tone up and cut away some of the bass as well. -
Latency If You're Interested.
clay-man replied to mickscrill's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
12 strings are still using pitch shifting. The latency will of course increase. Even nonpitch shifted strings on a 12 string probably have latency applied to it so that the timing matches the timing of the octave shifted strings. 20ms sounds pretty bad. -
Latency If You're Interested.

Are you using alternate tunings? Pitch shifting will induce latency. -
Yeah. I know. I think that's why they used it for modeling. It makes sense because it has a broad and flat frequency response compared to magnetic pickups. When you're modeling guitars, what you'll want is how the string sounds before it goes through a magnetic pickup (raw string sound), and piezos are the best in that regard. I just think maybe bypassing modeling would be a nice feature if you just wanted to hear what the piezos sound like, or if you prefer the sound of the piezos directly. While you can't beat the modeling on a Variax, it would be nice to have that option when it's clearly possible. The new HD firmware allows for "neutral body" and by pass any modeled body tone (I think), so all they really need to do is ad a "neutral pickup" or "raw piezo" option.
-
I've noticed when workbench is loading the flash memory of your guitar, it goes to an acoustic sound, but it sounds a bit thin and nothing like any of the acoustic models available on the variax. Do you think this is possibly the dry signal sound of the piezos? Does that technically mean it could be possible to have a completely dry piezo sound with modeling off? (In theory) Why do you suppose Line 6 didn't offer a dry mode that bypasses modeling?
-
I was wondering if any of you know if the different bodies, scale lengths, wood types, and all that stuff affect the tonality of the modeling side of a JTV? I heard piezos ignore these factors a bit easier than magnetics, but I only heard that once from somewhere. Is that true? If it does take a lot into account, do you think Line 6 calibrates the modeling for each guitar?

I think robot tuners are nice if you really want to stay in tune fast. Would be great for a gigging person, but I don't think it would sound good for drop-tunings. Drop tunings usually require thicker gauges to keep tension, which you can't do without changing strings. I'm not sure anyone fitted one of these on yet. If it requires internal modifications of the guitar, it might not have room. A lot of the Variax guts take up space in a Variax guitar as opposed to a normal guitar.

Because I would need a reamp device to send a regular Audio Interface's output into a amp's guitar input. Most Audio Interfaces don't have instrument level outputs, just line-level. The POD is obviously going to be used to feed into an amp, so I assumed I could do that, just double checking.
-
I just want to route the output of my DAW from a POD HD500 to my amp's guitar input jack. I don't think it's wise to put a line-in signal into a guitar input signal without a reamp device or something like that, and I thought the POD could do that for me.

I can see what some people are whining about. I think the 175 sounds nowhere near as beefy and woody as the 1.9, but that might be the P90's. Hopefully you can compensate loses in workbench. I do think that if it sounds more realistic, then that's good then. Just stick to 1.9 if you really want those sounds. It's not like the features are way different.

That's too much out of my price range. a POD HD 500 is already pushing it. I'm hoping to pick up one on ebay for 300-400 USD. After that I can just spend 20 USD on a phantom power box. I'm just a bit disapointed that something that costs that much doesn't have a phantom power supply switch. I'd rather not have to use my Fast Track Pro in conjunction with the HD500 when recording. It'll add latency, I'm sure. I will be using it to get the HD500's MIDI though, but MIDI and audio are separate things.
-
As lovely as the Pro is, I'd prefer a floor unit with expression pedals. I need a stompbox control setup. The thing is though, I'd use it live and studio. Live is only pseudo-live though, as I preform online streams, not stage gigs. Basically that means using a Studio setup live, mic and guitar at the same time.

I just noticed the HD500 doesn't have any phantom power? That's bad. Well, if that's the case, can I just throw one of these between the mic and the 500? https://www.google.com/shopping/product/15381405500829928752?q=phantom+power+microphone&sqi=2&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.56643336,d.dmg,pv.xjs.s.en_US.QSuMw9GwAyY.O&biw=1440&bih=814&tch=1&ech=1&psi=p8KHUsqDFPHK4AO-m4CYDQ.1384628903667.3&ei=rcKHUqrUGsOvsQSsu4HQDA&ved=0CMAEEKkrMAA
