  1. They will make money on it sure, but it will cost them Helix sales. I for one have never had my Helix out of my house. I'm a studio guy, I don't play out. If this had existed when the Helix was released, I would have saved myself $1100 and just gone with the software. The only reason I'm not selling my Helix now is that I would have to buy another interface since I sold mine. Hell, the software a $300-$400 pc, a cheap io and midi pedal and you could build you own Helix for less money than the real thing. I don't see how they are bleeding people, no one is being forced to buy it and it doesn't add any must have tech.
  2. Got the G10 today and like it a lot so far. It is plugged in to a Helix that I am using as an audio interface. My problem is that while it is charging it is picking up RF and passing it along to the Helix which is quite annoying. It makes less noise plugged in to a guitar. Anyone else having a similar issue?
  3. I posted this one once before, but I recorded everything through the Helix. Vocals were recorded with a Sure SM7B. They were recorded straight, just using the Helix as an interface, then processed in the DAW. https://soundcloud.com/darren-ramey/gravity-mp3
  4. I'd like to get rid of the Focusrite. ASIO drivers don't tend to play nice with multiple audio interfaces and I want to leave the Helix pluged for reamping etc. I'll look in to a preamp of some sort.
  5. I've got a pair of Rhodes NT5's. I love them for recording acoustic guitars. Is there a good way to use them with the Helix? There is only one mic input with phantom power yes? Are there any work arounds? I'd keep my Focusrite, but I've never had any luck making multiple audio interfaces play nice. I should mention that double tracking isn't an option as sloppy as I play...
  6. I'm surprised CA is still doing the reviews thing since he has been swallowed up by Gibson. His Dream Rig review convinced me I needed one, even though he went to work for Gibson midway through and never finished it. I will keep up with this even though I already have a Helix, he is usually so thorough that I'm sure I'll learn a thing or two from it.
  7. There isn't a control panel. I don't use either of those apps, but in Sonar it just works. Check and see if you can make it your default sound device in Windows itself.
  8. I've done a whole song on it now (https://soundcloud.com/darren-ramey/gravity-mp3). I used it to record and reamp the electrics, a bit of acoustic, bass and vocals. I lost a couple takes to the learning curve but I'm pretty happy with the results. As an audio interface it sounds at least as good as my last few. I found reamping to be a little awkward, but it didn't take too long to get the hang of. As far as latency goes, it doesn't really matter. There really isn't any reason to use input monitoring on your DAW when you can hear it live in the Helix as you are recording.

    Forum and Ipads

I was having the same problem in Safari on the iPad, and in Chrome under Win10 yesterday. It working better today but I still had to switch to Edge to post this reply. I couldn't get a cursor in Chrome. Haven't tried in Safari this morning.
  10. I still cant import patches. The name changes but nothing else. Under Win10 anyways.
  11. Thanks guys. That's not very intuitive, but I'll check it out tomorrow.
  12. Yes, it records the processed signal on 1-2 just fine.
  13. Using the Guitar + Vocal template. I chose left Helix input 7-8, so I would get a dry vocal track to mess with in Sonar and proceeded to lay down the vocal take of my life. It of course did not get recorded. My mic is in my vocal booth (aka bathroom) so I couldn't see there was no signal :(. On the same preset, the guitar signal comes through, but as soon as you switch the input to mic, nothing. This needs to be changed. It sucks. Is there a way to get an unprocessed mic signal in to my DAW?
  14. When I send a track back to the Helix it seems to be missing gain. I have to compensate by cranking up the gain in Sonar. Maybe related, is there a way to boost the level to the 7/8 reamp outputs? I like to record fairly hot and I'm not seeing that option.

    Reamping

Is there no way to assign input channels globally? On my Vetta I was able to set it up for reamping, then twirl through presets til I got something I liked, then tweak to taste. It was pretty cool for finding tones I wouldn't normally have gravitated to. Having to setup each patch separately is going to kill that. I just realized I could copy a bunch of patches to a user bank and set all the inputs up for reamping but that will be rather time consuming in itself, unless someone knows of a shortcut?
