Hey Wokbar,
I love my M13, too! The answer is yes. If you don't already have the advanced users guide for the M13, do a search and download the PDF - There is an abundance of different MIDI Automation one can do with a DAW.
You should be able to use a MIDI cable accessory like this breakout cable, if it's the correct model I looked up.
I don't have ProTools, but I use the following:
Reaper
Windows XP 32bit
MIDIOX (Used for MIDI monitoring and troubleshooting)
MIDISPORT 4x4
Once my MIDISPORT is connected I can manage the ports in my DAW such as enabling them.
Within my DAW I inserted a MIDI track that outputs to the proper port connect to my M13.
Using the M13 users guide I created a MIDI item and used these parameters: CC# 64 @127 (Tap Tempo - 2 taps determine tempo)
Placing duplicate messages at quarter note intervals.
When you play the track, this will now "Tap in" the BPM. You may wish to put more than 2 taps or even copy/paste several more.
I love rehearsing a song in my DAW and slowing it down however much I need to and my tempo on my M13 is right there and my time based effects are synced up.
You can do much more than just tempo match, such as push a previously back up scene to your M13.
I am about to embark in some live automation as we currently use Ableton Live with a click during our worship sets. Having multiple MIDI devices such as keys and other multi-effects guitar effects (Line6) already could benefit from a little work up front.
I hope this helps you.
