  1. I'm a touring musician. Initially I was skeptical of giving up my amps and guitars for modeling in a live sound environment, but saw the benefit of having to carry less gear and not taking chances of my axe's getting stolen provided the models were accurate sounding. I have a Line 6 Variax Acoustic 700, Relay G90 wireless, both of which I love and a HD 500X and of course The JTV 69. So you can see, I've invested some money in Line 6 gear thinking that if the models weren't accurate Line 6 would continue to update they're products as technology advanced, but if this is not the case, I'm not going to continue to sink money into a company who doesn't appreciate the customers who believed in them and purchased their product. The best way to do that is to provide firmware updates to legacy products. I almost bought a Helix, but I checked out the Headrush first and IMHO the Headrush amps sound much more realistic and it's more versatile so I bought it and it's working out great. I'm not hating on Line 6. I just wish they would continue to update their gear and support their loyal customers.

I have to agree with Robbieb61 and Palico, I bought my JTV 69 and HD 500X so that I wouldn't have to carry a bunch of amps and guitars on the road, but the modeled guitars just aren't cutting it. I'm a good tweaker and have been tweaking the models for 3 yrs and still can't get them to sound good, I'm back to carrying 5 & 6 guitars. I'm a clean player for the most part so the tone of the guitar is very important to me because it doesn't get hidden behind crunch or distortion. The magnetic PU sound great! and the alternate tuning is nice. I'm most disappointed in the Spank sounds. I started to give the guitar away when I couldn't use it for what I bought it for, but the guitar sounds great using the mag pickups. I need a strat on the road and since the Spank model is not convincing and I'm not willing to take my 79 on the road, I'm having the JTV modified with a push push switch on the tone control to split the coil on the humbucker allowing me to use it as a humbucker or a single coil when I need that strat single coil sound in the number 1 position. I keep checking to see if Line 6 is going to update the JTV models but nothing. I believe that since they've gone to Yamaha they are no longer supporting the JTV's. Sad cause the concept of the JTV is good and practical for gigging musicians, the modeling just needs to be tweaked to be comparable to the Boss GR-55 guitar synth IMHO. I hope whatever modeling updates Line 6 makes to it's modeling platform that it's backwards compatible with the JTV's.
  3. You might be right. I maybe wrong, but it seems like L6 focuses primarily on musician who are recording, that's cool, but some of us are performers, doing choreography and leaving the stages, this is where a wireless is a necessity, couple that with the ability to change guitars with each patches, I'd stop carrying 4 or 5 guitars to each performance, I'd just buy 2 Variax ( 1 as a backup ) and call it a wrap, that's perfect for the touring guitarist. That's freedom, not being locked down to one spot on the stage because you can't leave your pedal! LOL. I can't let the singer get all the girls because he has a wireless mic and can go in the audience and I can't. This is 2016 LOL...

  5. I'm very interested in the wireless VDI. The only reason I bought the HD500X and the JTV69 was to be able to store and change guitars with each patch and was disappointed after purchasing to find this feature wasn't available when playing wireless which is how I play. $1000.00 is a little steep considering the money already invested but if you lower the price I'd be very interested.

  7. Hi guys, I'm a little different than most. I play live, no FRFR, I like the sound of tube amps. I want true stereo separation. I use 2 amps on stage. I run the 1/4 in. outs from the HD500x into the effect returns of 2 identical amps. Each amp is mic'd and has it's own channel on the mixer panned hard left and hard right. I use only stereo effects post HD500x mixer. Most times I also run a dual signal path in the HD500x using identical amps there as well, placing an auto wah pre HD500x mixer on 1 amp only for color. My question is, to get true stereo output do I pan the path A & B of the HD500x mixer hard left & right? I thought I read in the advanced manual that paths A & B are both stereo each having a left and right channel. If that's the case, is it necessary to pan the mixer? Won't that just give me dual mono?   8. I'm running a patch with 2 amps, one acoustic amp and the other an orange amp. I have a pan pedal assign at the amp block to select the different amps. Is it possible to assign an acoustic guitar to the acoustic amp and electric guitar to the orange amp? or can I only assign 1 guitar per patch? I'm using JTV 69. I thought I saw that someone in the forum had assigned to guitars to one patch. Thanks for the help. L
  9. Yeah Doffe, I got that from your first answer. It seems we're all on the same page. Correct me if I'm wrong your application allows you to play both electric and acoustic simultaneously, I like that too. I'm going to try your application on a couple of patches also because we have some songs where it would definitely sound fatter if I were playing acoustic and electric simultaneous instead of trying to lay down the acoustic part using the looper. You can't use a looper live when you have a drummer. Lol... Thanks again Doffe, great ideas man! Now I have to find a way to get the guitar switching function with a wireless or better still be able to change patches on the HD500x using one of the controls on the Variax while using a wireless. I can't be tied to the pedal by the 6' VDI cable. My Boss Gt-10 has a very nice feature called Dynamic Switching where you can setup a clean channel and a solo channel in the same patch and switch between the 2 simply by changing your attack on the strings. In other words, I'm able to play chords on the clean channel then when it's time to solo I just attack my strings a little harder or turn my volume up a little bit and the channel automatically switches to my solo channel then when I'm done soloing, start playing softer or turn down a little and the channel switches back to clean and that's with a wireless so you're not tied to the pedal. You can be in the audience playing some sweet chords for the ladies, then take your rock star solo, then afterwards start chording again. Now the women are all over you cause you never had to leave them to go back up on stage to change your patch. They're giving you hotel room keys, throwing panties at you, ( Of course I never took them cause I'm a nice guy, honest. Lmbo..... ) You know what I'm talking about, you've been there! It's great sharing ideas with other technical and gear minded guitarist. Thanks again brother for all the help and great ideas. I really appreciate it Peace! L
  10. Thanks CipherHost, I appreciate the link. You and I are thinking alike. That's exactly what I'm wanting to do, run the the acoustic to FOH on one channel and the electric to my amp on the other channel within the same patch and use the pedal to switch between the channels. I wish Line 6 would offer the functionally to change guitars with each patch for wireless, a lot of us don't use cables anymore especially when you have a lot of stage to cover. Thanks again for the help brother. FYI, If you're into guitar synths or composing, Fishman just came out with a wireless midi controller that can be used on any guitar, It's called the Triple Play. It comes with notation and recording software. All you do is play and it automatically prints out what you just played in musical notation or tab. Saves a lot time from having to chart by hand. CipherHost I agree, and will try running the acoustic to the front of House, imho full range flat response is great in the studio but live it lacks the character of guitar amps for amplifying electric guitars. There's a reason why you tour with Marshall's or Fender's, or Boogie's, a Vox AC30 or Matchless. Each amp has it's own unique character and tone and at the end of the day, tone is what it's all about. I can definitely see the practicality of FRFR if you're doing club gigs, House of Blues, Hard Rock etc. but that's not my situation. There's a reason why you don't see them used on concerts yet. They're good and they've come along way but I think they need to be developed a little more. I'm sure they will get there, but I think it'll be a while before they replace guitar amps. Thanks Doffe, that's a good idea if I can route channel A with the acoustic signal to the effects loop and the loop out to the board and channel B with the electric guitar effects chain to my amps with a panner to select which channel I'm playing. Sometimes I'll switch back and forth from acoustic to electric several times in a song and I don't like the sound of the pedal being run directly to the board in a live setting for electric guitar work, no offense. I guess I'm ole school but to me simulator run direct don't sound as good as when you have your amps dialed into their sweet spot and those speakers are pushing air. I know guitar amps are not designed to accurately reproduce acoustic guitars because they are not full range acoustic amps. Thats's why I'm not running into the front or pre amp of the amps, I'm running into the effects return to bypass the preamps and just using the power amp section and the speakers. I'm actually using the HD500x as my preamp to more accurately reproduce the acoustics. I like your idea, I'm going to try it. Thanks. L
  13. Hi family, I'm beyond my scope of expertise and I need your help please. I need a very realistic acoustic patch for an HD500x using a jtv69. I have to cover the song, Don't Blink by Kenny Chesney and I'm having a hell of a time trying to make the acoustic models sparkle and sound real. I've read and seen all the line 6 videos on acoustic patches and they sound good but they are running through studio boards and monitors, I'm a performing musician, I'm coming through amps. My current setup is the JTV 69, HD500x, and 2 Fender Twin amps run in stereo. I'm running the HD500x into the effect return of the Twins to bypass the preamps and the compression and coloring they add. Is there a wide range amp that's suitable for acoustic guitars in the amp drop down menu of the HD500x or is there a wide range speaker cab in the menu that I can use to create a realistic acoustic sound when run through my amps similar to the sound on the intro of the record? or can anyone steer me to some really good sounding acoustic patches designed to be run through clean amps using the JTV modeling and the HD500x. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance, Lauren

  15. I play a JTV 69 through the HD500x. The mag pups sparkle and sound great but most of the models globally sounds very mid rangey, nasal, and dull to my ears especially once I compared them using the same settings, to similar guitars they were modelled after which a lot of them I have. This forced me to use the mag pickups all the time, it was fine when I was playing songs that required a Strat but totally defeated the reason why I bought the JTV 69 which was to use as my main ax so that I didn't have to carry a bunch of guitars. We cover 30 songs a show and I've created a patch for each song and assigned different guitar models for each patch. I tried to use the EQ's in the effects section of the HD500x to alter the tone of models but those EQ's display % and not freq. so you don't know what you're cutting or boosting which makes it hard for me to dial in a good tone. So I use the global EQ actually to EQ the guitar because the lows, mids, highs, and cuts display freq. I was able to cut that nasal sounding 1.5k mid range and add some clarity and a little body to the overall tone of the guitar.​ My amps are mic'd so the sound engineer uses the channel EQ's on the board to adjust for room acoustics. I hope Line 6 add a feature in Workbench where you can use the model tone on the JTV's as a base line and adjust the EQ. of each guitar to the individuals taste and save it globally or per preset. For example a maple neck Strat and a Rosewood neck Strat, both are Strat's but 2 totally different sounds and change all the EQ's in the HD500X to display freq. like rack mount units. Also it would be nice if someone from L6 would do a tutorial showing the global EQ setting and the EQ setting used when recording their videos cause they sound great!
