  1. Hello! I have a Helix rack. I would like to have/use a function like the Electro Harmonix "Freeze" pedal produces. For those not familial with that EH pedal, it would allow me to hit a chord, then hit a pedal which results in a continuous playing of that chord, until I hit the pedal again at which time the chord would stop. Thus the name "freeze" pedal. This >I wish to use as a practice device, being able to explore different sounds, scales and tonalities, and the way they sound and feel over a certain chord. I do not wish to change the initial tone or feeling of the chord, but simply retain it and be able to play over it, if that makes sense. The idea combines perhaps the effect of the looper, and/or sustain effect or function. I will admit that I have not used the looper function on the Helix as I do not have a pedal, so I am not familiar with it. Is this possible to do with the Helix? If so: -what type of pedal is necessary to get the looper functioning? I hope a simple generic type would work. -How do I do this in the Helix? Is this a simple looper function, or are there other ways to go on the idea in setting up the Helix? All help is gratefully accepted and any other ideas as to how to approach this question considered. In addition I hope this may help others with practice ideas. Best regards
  2. Thanks for the reply Peter. After diverse tries I did finally get it all installed, most probably in the order you suggested. Works fine.
  3. Hello, I have previously updated to the 2.81 firmware through the 2.80 update. I recall it was a hassle but can´t quite remember how I managed to get through it all. Today I have downloaded the 2.82 flash memory as the first step, but I can´t rememeber which program I have previously used to open and install it with. I believe that when this step is finished the remainder will go smoothly. Is it as simple as usin 7-zip or some other zip extractor? Thanks for your help, garbanzo
  4. I am one of only (I am sure) a handful of people who have had the same problem as described above, ie stuck at 50%, which may have been because I did not follow instructions and update the HX Edit. I have followed the instructions as per above and it worked like a charm. I am happy that this has been out with the Beta people and things like this have gotten ironed out. Now I must plunge in and see whats new.
  5. Thanks Phil. It solved the difficulty nicely. I appreciate your help!
  6. Thanks Phil! I thought that was part of the 2.60 update. Where is the link to Edit? I am afraid I did not see it in the Helix update section.
  7. Hello fellow Helix users! I have a Helix Rack, updated to 2.60, I run a pc with W10. I have recently installed a few IR´s through Edit, which I can see on the Rack. However when attempting to access the IR´s through Edit the assigned slots show "empty". I am able to access the IR´s through the Racks knobs using the screen there, but not being able to utilize Edit fully in this capacity is more cumbersome and defeats the purpose of Edit. I should add that I have today installed 2.60 again yesterday with no bettering of function. Has anyone had this problem? Does anyone know of a solution? This would be most helpful. Best regards Garbanzo

    Hummmm

PerS Could you explain what you mean by, " Solution was to safe the grounding between ALL the units " At the moment I have all plugged into the same wall socket which itself is grounded. All units have grounded cords ei Helix, pc´n, and amp head. I thought that this arrangement in itself is grounded, I just want to be sure that I am not missing something. The last thing you did when you had similar problem was to use a isolation transformer (from Lehle). Where did you purchase this? I would have written this in Swedish but I thought that it would exclude too many others who may benefit from the exchange. Best garbanzo

Hi guys! I have now had the opportunity of checking things more systematically. My Hmmm arises when pc, helix, head and guitar are connected and then I connect the power to charge the pc/laptop So it appears that the culprit is the pc charger. I take full credit for having missed this earlier! What do I do so as to eliminate that as an interference? Any suggestions? Vad säger PerS? Känner du till en lösning som man hittar här hemma? Kjell&co? Någon sorts filter? Sånt här förstår jag mig inte på? Best regards garbanzo

Hi guys i wanted to get back and say that I am travelling at the moment and have not had time/opportunity to test any of the good and logical suggestions I have received. I will get back with a progress rapport. I know it is very unsatisfying to engage in trying to solve someone else's difficulties and then not hear anything. Will get back soon. Thanks garbanzo

Hej Per! Ja, kul med lite svenska, jag har inte uppfattat att vi översvämmar forumet direkt. Jag är på resande fot för tillfället och har inte kunnat testa förslagen ovan men jag ville tacka för din input!

Thanks for your input PerS and jbuhajla! I have just tried disconnecting my laptop from the Helix usb and disconnecting the charger with no changes in the hum. Sound wise my Helix connects to my amp (a Gallien Krueger MB200 which is a class D head ) and uses the aux in to the amp so as to avoid amp colouration of the sound as far as possible, and of course this connects to the speaker cab, and finally the Helix is connected to my laptop. Let me explain my electrical circuit set up, I have one extension cord with multiple outlets on it. It is a grounded circuit. Electrically Helix, amp and laptop are all connected to the same extension cord using the cables that came with respective devise. I have experimented with changing the usb cable with no results. The electrical outlet I am connected to is grounded and there is nothing else connected on the circuit, nor on the fuse box. At present I am at my summer house outside of Stockholm, but I have the same problem at home where there are considerably more devises connected to the electronic at home. Still same low grade Hmmm. This baffles me. Please weigh in if any ideas pop up. Thanks garbanzo Hej PerS Glad Midsommar!

My Helix rack works fine as far as I can tell. However when I connect to my pc via usb I get a low grade hummmmmm. I am updated to 2.54 software and am in an environment without florescent lighting, or ever other equipment other than pc, Helix and my amp GK MB200. I am presently in an out building with no other electrical things connected to the circuit, and I have the same problem at home where there are other electrical things connected. So the problem is the same in both settings. Does anyone have a suggestion to offer, or have similar experience? Best wishes garbanzo
  15. Cool hurghanico, I have never heard of this either. I now have an additional device to look into. As well as he link you provided. Very generous! Thanks!
  16. Thanks again cruisinon2! The concept of IR is entirely new to me and has created a maze of questions as reflected above. I have bee Helix interested for a long time and may now fust have to go and have a listen and try it myself.
  17. As this does not seem to be getting any more feedback I will mark it as answered/solved.
  18. Thanks cruisinon2! That s too bad about the pod not taking IR´s directly. Do you have a Helix? Do you find IR´s a useful addition to the built in Helix settings? I believe that most pod users and probably most Helix users as well are into a bit of harder rock sound. Have you come across any sites that have jazz or jazz fusion IR´s?
  19. Hello I have recently come across the concept of Impulse Response and am trying to get a grip on the concept theoretically and practically. So let me brake my questions down in order of importance: 1. If I were to download an IR, or to produce myself by using an on line program (I have no idea as to how to do that but have read that it can be done), how is this to be loaded into the POD HD? Once loaded into the POD, how is it to be controlled? Do the POD controls work on it, or is it to be controlled through use of the POD Edit program? 2. Are there risks associated with the above? Is there a risk that the POD itself can be damaged somehow if the process above is done improperly? 3. Is there experience of IR´s enhancing the use of the POD? 4. Where do I download IR´s from? 5. Where do I find programs that allow my to create my own IR´s? 6. Is there something else I should know before hoping in to the IR pool? Thanks in advance and hope that this may aid others. garbanzo
  20. Thanks Joel! Interesting to hear what sort of views and experiences people on the forum.
  21. Thanks pianoguyy! Your second reply had not occured to me! I am not even sure I know how to set my pc up for a full range flat response, any tips? Prehaps I should have added that I play guitar, a telecaster, through the rig outlined above. I have only just gotten acquainted witht he concept of FRFR speakers and am presently trying to get my feet wet in the subject. I am trying to get a reasonable idea as to how much my rig, contra a FRFR rig influences the sound output. I have a particulay sound in my head that I want to produce, and have thus far not been sucessful in that endevor. Ja, I know the "sound in the head" thing is difficult at best to emulate, even though I think there are lots of us that have tht method of working with a POD or a Helix or what ever it is. Another related question if I may, how can I know that a studio monitor, an acoustic guitar amp, or a keyboard amp is flat enough? Amps that are specifically built as such, FRFR, I believe are labled as such, are they not?
  22. How do you members get the max from the POD in a live amp/speaker setting? I find that when I use the POD as a sound card and record I get a different sound than I do when playing live through my speaker amp set up shich is a Gallien Krueger (bass amp) MB 200 and a Eminence bass speaker with a open back. I know that my amp/speaker colours the sound. So the essence of my question is what is a good speaker choice that allows for a sound like I record with, or can hear with headphones on? I guess we a talking about a neutral speaker that reproduces POD signals without colouring the signal too much. I am sure that many have wondered about this and tried different solutions, what have you had for results and conclusions? Thanks garbanzo
  23. I should note that this problem was self repaired when W10 completed its latest update. When I turned the pc off the latest downloaded windows material was installed, and when I started the problem was alliviated. This has happened on one additional occasion, for some reason downloaded W10 stuff has an uppsetting effect on the POD. I hope this experience may help others.
  24. Hi Guys I run W10, and have had my POD HD connected for ages with no problems. After the most recent update of W10 the PC does not connect to the POD. I have uninistalled and reinstalled Monkey who cleverly notes that I need USB firmware. But I dont know where to download this!! In addition the flash memory and drivers are not found. Several years ago I had similar problems while running W8.1 If I recall I downloaded some files and installed directly, some how going past the Monkey, that is if I recall correctly. In all cases I would be tremendously indebted to anyone who has productive ideas. I should say that my usb port does work, I have checked, and I have run Windows maintance program for checking that all is working correctly which it was. The POD is also working fine when I plug it into my amp, and even my cable is working correctly. Thanks in advance garbanzo ps. Glad Christmas
  25. Hello hurghanico! First thank you for your tips and advice. My problem seems to be cured, and i can say that I have plenty of signal now. Now is the time for confessions as to what, at least, part of the problem was. I was put on the trail by you mentioning the mixer. When I first got my pod, I intended to use only one amp at a time, my logic then was to turn the mixer vol A all the way to the left, and vol B all the way to the right. I havent looked at the mixer since then. Today I centered everything, and even experimented with raising the volume levels in the mixer which immediately gave a stronger signal. To the extent that I had to turn Vol down out of the POD as to not chip the signal in to Reaper. I mention all this as you have been very helpful now, and I believe that i recognize you from earlier questions I have asked. I am sure that countless "problems" you have delt with have been self inflicted by people like me who over zealously adjust everything adjustable, and then wonder why it doesn´t work as expected, as is obviously the case with me. I will admit that the +18dB adjustment you showed me yesterday helped, but nothing in comparison to what has happeden with the adjustments I have described above. Once again, thanks 0zoro
