  1. I much prefer to use the edit program on a computer than the controls on the unit itself. I did what you suggested, but used the editor instead. It seems I'm always fighting with the pod xd500 and 500x when using an editor. at first, the changes did not seem to change when I shut off the wah pedal on the fx screen, but eventually with the pedal off, I was able to engage it in the controller section and that annoying fix wah sound that caused me to start this topic was finally gone! Thank you so much, your advise worked!
  2. Thanks! I believe this is exactly what i was looking for. If you have a helix tone that you want to use, how do you know which voice option is best on the dt?
  3. I have searched google and the dt amp forum section and this section but can not find the midi commands to have the helix work with the dt series amps. I know there is a an excellent video that was posted here and available on youtube, but could someone kindly recap the midi commands to use to have the dt amps and the helix work well together? Can someone also verify that this is the best sounding and easiest way to integrate the two products? Thanks!
  4. Thanks. That would explain why I occasionally run into problems with wah pedals on the hd500x. I'm sorry to be so dense, but could you explain what you mean assign the wah fx to the pedal toe manually? I guess my first step is to choose a wah pedal under the fx section. Usually the wah will set up automatically to the exp-2 setting which is what I want. How exactly do I update the switch manually to help shut off the wah in exp-1. thanks!
  5. Every once in a while, my tones do really strange things with wahs. If I can't resolve the issue I will restart the tone building from scratch and the problem goes away, so my occasional issues are probably because of bad setups and not hardware. I am up to date on software, drivers and the editing program. Today I built a tone where I do the normal standard pedal setup. I do this on every single tone I build on my hd500x. That way, all tones behave in a similar way when I play. I place a volume pedal on exp 1 and a wah on exp 2. I leave both "on" and default to the volume pedal on exp 1 being selected when the tone starts. On today's tone build, when the wah is not on (because I am on exp 1) it seems I get a locked in wah sound. Locked in meaning it sounds like the wah is on and there's that well-known tone sound we hear when the wah is being used but not changing because the foot pedal is not being raised or lowered. The wah is not selected at this point and using the foot pedal does not change that locked in wah sound. When I shut off the wah using the editor software that fixed wah tone goes away. And when I switch to exp 2 the wah is functioning and sounding fine. No matter what I do I can't get rid of the wah tone in exp 1 unless I shut off the wah in the edit program but then I loose the ability to use the wah. I did not try to move the wah to a different footswitch button as that would defeat the purpose of standardizing each tone in my system. Changing wah models and/or moving the wah to different parts of the fx chain does not help. I'm baffled by this. Any thoughts on what could be causing this? I checked my other tones that work fine and the settings on the controllers and pedal options all look identical with the tone that's giving me fits.
  6. these answers are amazing and I believe "gear-head" is spot on, I need to communicate better and clearer with the band and see what they want. As the new guy I want to fit in, and not ram my beliefs down their throat. We Play mostly classic rock and blues/rock.
  7. DT integration means I would buy a 2nd Helix immediately (one for home studio, one for playing gigs). not only would they sell more helix units but they would also sell more dt25 and 50's and keep that wonderful amp and technology relevant for their new high end modeling product.
  8. thanks everyone, I appreciate the great suggestions! I'm going to try them and also suggest to the singer and bass player the ideas above. Using a dt25 amp limits my ability to drive a second amp delayed far from the main amp, but that seemed like a great idea. Thanks!
  9. I have been invited to join a band and for the first time in my brief band history, will be the only guitar player. We have a vocalist, bass player, drummer and myself. I was asked to try to fill in the sound gaps since we do not have keyboards or a second guitarist. I want to add some sounds to my pod 500 tones to accomplish this. The first thing that comes to mind is a chorus and octiver. Any other effects that can help? Can anyone provide some tips and guidance on this matter? Thanks!
  10. No. But perhaps the op meant they wanted the sound of a cab, not the sound of a cab being mic'd up So while you can't take a photograph without using a camera, the better question is can you listen to a cab without it having a microphone?
  11. The Studio EQ worked very well! It offered more of a boost than the Parametric EQ and did not add overdrive! The tube compression, set for no compression did change the clean tone. Thanks guys, I appreciate the help!
  12. On some early Beatles songs I'm playing, I use a very clean tone that works well on my POD HD500. During solos, I need to increase my volume, but I'm having trouble finding an effect in the POD HD 500 hardware that can boost my volume without adding gain and overdrive. I'd like to accomplish this with an effect as I'm not a fan of playing out and using the volume pedal. Currently I'm using the Parametric EQ as a boost as it seems to add some volume without causing the sound to become overdriven. But it seems it's not enough of a volume boost. Any suggestions of another effect I can try? thanks!
  13. with the newer firmware updates, line 6 made changes to the amp parameters and who knows what else, so importing the bundles into a newer system with new controls is not compatible, according to a few sources I have read on these forums. And I can't get old firm-wares and easily figure out what my bundle backup firmware was in. No big deal, I have re-backed up my files as set lists.
  14. Well now that Line 6 is pushing the Helix and pouring more resources into that product, do you think there will be any additional firmware updates for the POD HD line? I ask because I recently learned that all those backup bundles I did over the years are not going to restore properly if I upgrade the pod hd firmware and I now know it's best to backup setlists not bundles. I'm wondering that if I have the latest firmware, perhaps this will be the final update they offer. I have not been with Line 6 when they've phase out a product, so I'm not sure if some firmware updates are a result of new computer hardware or computer trends and there could be future updates coming. I imagine Line 6 has pretty much worked out the bugs by now in the POD's and there's no pressing reason for firmware updates. Any thoughts on this?
  15. Well I ordered what I thought would work fine from ebay in allowing me to play an Ibanez JEM77P guitar with the wireless g10 since the G10 does not quite fit properly into the guitar cavity (here's the link).... http://www.ebay.com/itm/400667246204?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT The item I ordered was a Stereo 6.35mm Female Socket to Male Mono ¼" Guitar 6.35mm Jack Plug Adapter. The adapter worked but very poorly. It added for lack of a better word, overdrive on clean sounds, and I believe the volume suffered and was coming in and out. The size and footprint are perfect. Can anyone recommend a better adapter solution? thanks!
  16. Thanks! I am so inthralled with my new Helix I have not read the manual as you can tell. I will get to that soon, thank you so much!
  17. This topic has been very eye-opening and I finally get it. I just downloaded the new custom-tone "Boston Rocktman" and it's amazing. I believe there are 8 snapshots that go with this tone. I trying to figure out how to switch snapshots and the only way I can do this is with my computer, not with the Helix. How do I switch among the 8 snapshots this custom-tone has on the helix? Thanks!
  18. On the pod system, backing up bundles were the way to go, all of your tones were inside the single bundle file. On the helix sounds like I need to export each set list as it's own file and that will contain all my modified tones in the set list? thanks!
  19. I'm just getting my feet wet with the Helix and I backed up my tones using the Helix export option. The export and back-up seem pretty straight-forward. As you know the Helix comes with two filled set lists and I modified about 40 of these tones and placed the new versions into the user-1 set list. I created a file, called bundle.hlb that is 243,601 bytes in size. Much to my surprise, this file is much smaller than the POD HD bundle files that are always 2,118,120 bytes in size, no matter how filled your setlists are. I imagine my bundle.hlb file size will grow as I add more tones in the helix set lists. Can someone please confirm that my bundle.hlb file size is probably fine and that it's small byte-size is normal because of the few tones I have in my helix? Last, I realize that the backup does not contain the IR's and that sounds like it will be challenging to back up IR's properly but that will be my next challenge. As always, thanks for any and all assistance and guidance on these matters!

    IR's

I did a search on custom tones and on google but did not see any of Chris's presets. Can you please let me know where i can find them or what his tones are called? thanks!

    IR's

Here's one more question. Another tone I would like is: Van Halen Chnd by Enzo386. His link for the IR is no longer found... http://1drv.ms/1XAyQjn What happens if you download a tone but not the IR? And would anyone know where I can get the proper IR? thanks again,

    IR's

I am new to the concept of IR's having just purchased the Helix this weekend. I see a custom tone I would like to download and there is at least one ir I will need. The tone is called. BB VH Eruption. Here is the description: Eruption Eddie Van Halen billbassler Preset created using Helix firmware 1.12. IR used is RedWire & FREE. http://www.redwirez.com/free1960g12m25s.jsp. Downloaded IR location: Free-Marshall1960A-G12Ms\Red Wire Impulses\BIGBox\48 KHz-24bit\Marshall1960A-G12Ms\Shure SM57Marshall1960A-G12Ms-SM57-Cap-2in. The tone is based on using a Charvel EVH Art series Strat. Helix through a Line 6 StageSource L2m monitor. To my ear this patch could also be used for Ain't Talkin 'Bout Love if the MXR flanger is added. My questions are: is there one IR I need or more? One looks like a 1960 marshall and then there's mention above of an sm57. So is there more than one IR needed? Also, when I went to the site, it looks like the tone if free, but there are others that are not free. Will I be able to get the proper sound with the free IR? Last the zip file contains a whole bunch of files. Does the Helix want me to extract the files before I try to import the IR or IR's or will the Helix handle that? Thanks!
  23. Looks like I'll be buying the Helix and am now thinking about a pedal board build around this unit. I love the Steve Vai Bad Horsie 2 wah pedal and the cry baby wah I have because both units shut off when not in use. Does the Helix offer a similar function in any of the wah pedals it models? I'd love to make a smaller foot-print and avoid an additional wah pedal if the Helix offers an auto shut off feature, thanks!
  24. I did not realize the communication was known to be buggy. I just noticed my issues recently and believe for a long time these issues never happened to me. I am delving deeper and deeper into the settings so that may have something to do with it. The idea to change banks never occurred to me but that's a quicker fix than unplugging the unit and disconnecting it from the pc and having the pc and pod resend all the settings. If all else fails I will reinstall the firmware. Thanks!
  25. wow, thank you so much for your feedback. sounds like it would be a larger improvement than I thought. also, having read many posts in this section, I was worried about the learning curve and complexity of the product. Looks like I will move forward, thanks again for the advise.
