+1 on not being able to save in the off position. Looks like I'm might be returning this pedal.

I had this setup once. First hook up your midi cables. I had my Marshall amp as Midi ch. 1 ( because that was it's default setting), I set the HXFX as midi channel 2. Next set your amp settings, Ex. OD1 RED, reverb, with effects loop on. Then press the footswitch/midi button twice on the amp. This light should be blinking waiting for you to send it a program number. On you HXFX lets say your on bank1 snapshot A. Go into the Command Center and select an Instant (lightning bolt). On the right side (using a HX edit on a computer) select Bank/Program. From the drop down menu select midi ch.1 (for your Marshall amp), then below that, select Program and choose a number like 1,2,3...128 and Press save. The important part now is to change presets then go back to the preset you were working on, this sends the PC (Program Change) message. It works best on a computer to do all this editing. If done right the light on your amp will stop blinking. It took me a long time to figure this out. Once you get the hang of it, it will go fast.

I was able to get things to work by turning off the midi thru on the MC8 unit.

Thanks rd2rk. The Morningstar software has a Midi Monitor built in it's software and it's receiving those repeated signals. Looks like I have to download some software to check on the line6 product. I'm new to this stuff and I'll be leaving for work soon. So this will have to wait until this later today. What I've read quickly on line so far is that maybe resetting one or both units might be my resolve, I hope so.

So a while back I purchased the HX FX and a Morningstar MC8. I was never able to do basic PC changes to the MC8 from the HX FX. So I kind of gave up on it. Not knowing if it was Line6 or MC8 that was having trouble. I can use the MC8 to send changes to the HX FX but I can't change any of the programs on the MC8 from the HXFX. So I gave it another go tonight and was able to make some PC changes to the MC8 but immediately the HXFX and the MC8 start blinking all there preset lights. I have to turn of the Line 6 HX FX to quit this action. I'm beginning to think that the line 6 unit is defective in some capacity. I'm able to do PC messages to my amp from the HXFX but not to the Morning star. I even have a VooDoo labs control switcher that both units can make changes to. So I'm at a lost to solve this problem. Has anyone had this blinking light issue? It's like I'm almost there but something isn't computing just right. Last resort would be to do a full factory reset. I purchased the unit at Guitar Center but the box was already opened once, even though it came from the backroom.

I was hoping to do this on my HXFX but it doesn't work. I'm wondering if my device is defective or the HXFX isn't capable of doing this. I've tried every combination of connections and midi global settings. But there's really just one to do it correctly, which makes me think the unit is defective in some way. I can send PC and CC commands from the HXFX to my amp and change channels and other setting but I can't get the MC8 to change banks with the HXFX. Bummer. I'm trying to figure this out on the Morning Star forum.

I just bought an HXFX and only have access to 9 blocks.

So If I program everything in the helix including midi amp channel changing, then added like a Morningstar MC8 for expanded use, I should be ok with not having to reset where my midi messages are coming from. The Morning star (or other device) just sends a command to change the channel on the Helix, Helix then sends the midi command to change the channel on the amp if needed if it's programmed in that preset. At worst I'm just have to reprogram some midi PC/CC commands from the Morningstar instead of the Helix. Just trying to methodically plan out my presets/snapshots for midi now. Just played through a 4 cable method preset and it sounds awesome. Thanks rd2rk

I just bought a Helix HX effects and I'm using a Synergy Head with 2 modules for a four channel setup. I know I can have the Helix control the amp channels through midi on say channel 1. If in the future I want to use a bigger midi floor controller to control the Helix do need to change this set up. So if the Helix HX is on midi channel 2, can I have the future midi floor controller change a preset/snapshot on the Helix and will this automatically have the HX effects tell the amp to change the channel through midi. Or do I have to reset up my midi channels and have the future midi floor controller send out commands to both the Helix and the Synergy amp. I hope this wasn't to confusing. Shawn

I purchased some from Sonic DNA. The eddie3 cabs sound great, based on EVH 4X12. And I bought from 3 Sigma Audio the updated Mesa Boogie pack. I Love my metal so Vintage 30s are my liking.

Thanks, I was hoping to use a dedicated DAC I have for improved sound quality out of my computer. But I'll try this.

I currently have the Firehawk plugged into a pair of Mackie HR824mk2's by XLR. I'd like to you use those speakers also for my PC, (music, YouTube videos, etc.) which is right next to my guitar set up. I don't care to record my guitar playing but I realize I would need some sort of DAW to connect the firehawk too. I would then connect my PC to a DAC then to the Mackies. Is there a way of doing this? What kind of free DAW software is recommended? Do I have to adjust outputs on my PC when just listening to music vs. playing guitar or does the guitar work only when the DAW is running? Many questions wondering how others are doing it, especially if your using a dedicated DAC. Unfortunately Mackie does not recommend hooking up both XLR and RCA, I get that, but that is what I was hoping to do (just not running both connections at the same time). Thanks for any feedback, Shawn

You should also post this in the Helix forum.

If you assign each effect to one of the 5 top FS, then yes your set. You can't have multiple effects turn on and off at the same time by hitting one top row FS. If you want to have multiple effects turn on/off at the same time you can program them in the lower row A-D. I use each Bank number (ex. 20A-20D) for one song or band type of sound. So 20A might be clean with effects I can turn on/off. 20B would be a little dirtier. 20C would be heavy rhythm section. 20D would be for lead. Each new batch has added or changed FS to tailor your sound. I use a lot of the same clean channel settings for my A(fs) but the rest of the bottom row changes depending the sound I've created. I find it easier to create whole new batches for just one or two added effect, so I'm not foot tapping so much. I'm not trying to imitate every song or band out there, I just like my sound, then create a few new Banks to come close to other popular song sounds. Hope this helps, Shawn

I don't own the Helix, so I'll give a hint for those who own one, to win the free preset. The band has 1 consonant and one lucky number in their name.

Thanks for your quick response. When I choose the variax within the app, I'm not able to change controlled by. It always says controlled by Firehawk. I don't want that for every preset. I've tried pushing or sliding the icon but nothing happens. I guess its just a learning curve. I love the Firehawk and my Variax. I guess I'll have to be more careful when closing a preset.

• MODEL CONTROLLED BY: This is a global option that affects behavior for all Firehawk FX presets. • When set to FIREHAWK: The Firehawk FX sends the stored Variax Model & Tone Knob settings to the guitar upon the loading of a Firehawk Preset. If you adjust your Variax guitar's on-board settings, the Variax settings are captured and then stored within the Firehawk Preset. • When set to VARIAX: The stored MODEL & TONE KNOB POSITION Variax settings are not sent to the guitar upon loading a Firehawk preset. If you adjust your Variax guitar's onboard settings, these will be heard, but not captured or stored within the Firehawk preset. • TUNING CONTROLLED BY: This is a global option that affects the behavior of all Firehawk presets. • When set to FIREHAWK: The Alt. Tunings stored within any Firehawk Preset are sent to your Variax guitar upon recall of the Preset. • When set to VARIAX: The Alt. Tunings stored within any Firehawk preset are not sent to your Variax guitar upon recall of the preset. I'm new to the line6 products and I'm loving all the versatility that these devices have. One question, can you switch form• MODEL CONTROLLED BY Firehawk to Variax. In the manual it makes it seem like you can. But I haven't figured it out. Sometimes I just want to play with a ton of settings on the Variax and have nothing saved to the Firehawk preset, but it always keeps my last Variax settings. Shawn
