Flextone Iii Xl Volume Issues

Hi all, I am having a similar issue, volume cutting to roughly half after a few seconds of play on some patches. This is probably a very silly question but do I need to attach the MIDI in and out of the amp to my PC to get monkey to recognise the amp? At the moment I am connecting the out of the PC to the in on the amp but it refuses to recognise the Flextone :( Any help or suggestions appreciated!
