  1. Triple play was good...but for live use I just find it simpler to use MG2...although I'm not entirely sure if the tracking on MG2 is as good as the triple play...the big test for me would be piano sounds...
  2. hi mlong, I toyed around with this for a while....it does work although a bit glitchy at times...the way I have it set up is to connect the USB from the Helix into the IPAD through the camera connecter kit...then I use audiobus to route the signals from mg2 into sample tank/other synths and then back into the helix through USB...I then bring it back into the signal chain through the usb input and blend it with guitar and other effects...it does work but I'm yet to use it live as it does glitch out once in a while....would be great to take a look at your helix path...
  3. Have you looked at the Analogman King of Tone models with the 2.8 update?
  4. would a small mixer help? Helix 1/4 inch out --> Mixer --> FOH and ASC (or) Helix 1/4 inch out --> Mixer--> FOH and Helix XLR out --> ASC? You could think of using a relatively inexpensive Behringer Xenyx mixer. But you may need 1/4 inch to XLR cables I guess. maybe a little research in that direction can help.
  5. Hello Folks, I'm trying to use the simple pitch block to get some drop tunings and its been a mixed bag so far. I use a simple pitch block as the first pedal in my signal chain and set it to the desired drop level (-1 for eb and -4 for C etc) with the mix at 100%. I find that it seems to work OK if I'm using modeled amps and some power chords. However, even power chords using my real amp sounds weird with this effect on. I also use some Acoustic IR's for electric guitars from 3 Sigma Audio. Today I tried a simple Eb drop tuning on the Acoustic side and it sounded HORRIBLE!! I'm guessing that is possibly due to the fact that the Helix pitch shifter is not polyphonic. So my question is would a Drop pedal like the Digitech drop be a "significant" improvement over the Helix simple pitch? I'm also guessing that a Variax is probably the best option but I would rather not spend the money on that as all I would need it for would be drop tuning and acoustic guitar. Thanks in advance!!!
  6. Thanks Bob! I think the advice is great!! I basically decided to use the 4CM with my Cab and a modeled Amp into FRFR...that seemed to work best and with some EQ was able to get a good combination...thanks again!!!!
  7. Thanks for the comment...I was getting good sounds using the modeled amps and the FRFR...the trouble was more when using the 4CM with my amp...I did play around a bit and figured it out...but thanks again!!!
  8. I use a two amp preset with one path dedicated to my tube amp connected through the FX loop into a cab and the second path using a modeled amp and cab into an FRFR. I typically use a simple delay set to about 20ms with feedback at 0 and mix at 100% and a pitch block to detune a few cents for one path typically the modeled amp. I don't know why but some of the pitch effects create weird digital warbles when I use it with my real amp. But this method seems to thicken the sound (at least perceived sound) significantly and found this to work much better in live situations as compared to the double take.
  9. Yes then I would need to use one of the amp sims plus cab/IR....I tried that set up earlier and it works well...I'm trying to keep just the MT-15 as my core tone but to get stereo outs with the second path running into the headrush..
  10. Hi All, I recently purchased a PRS MT-15 to go with my Helix and I'm really dig the set up using the 4 CM method. It works really well when using just the MT-15 with the cabs. However, I'm having some trouble when trying to go stereo with this. To be specific my basic set up is as follows Guitar --> Helix Guitar in Helix FX loop Send --> MT - 15 Amp Input MT 15-FX Loop Send --> Helix FX loop Return Helix 1/4" Left Mono Out --> MT -15 FX Loop Return In path 1 on my helix I have some pre loop effects followed by the FX loop 1 block and post loop effects with the output channeled to 1/4 inch panned hard left. Next, I'm using a load box to try and create a stereo set up. Additional cabling is as follows: MT15 Speaker out --> Two Notes Captor Amp in Two notes Captor Speaker out --> Guitar Cabinet Two Notes Captor Line out (Dry) --> Helix Aux Input [This serves as the input to Helix Path 2] In path 2 on my helix I'm running a simple delay set to 20ms with feedback to 0 and mix 100% followed by an IR and output to 1/4" panned hard right. Finally, to complete the set up: Helix 1/4" Right Out --> Headrush FRFR112 input Problem: The sound through the Headrush is a fizzy mess. I wonder if what is missing is the power amp emulation? Would I need to route my Captor line out into a power amp before feeding it back into the Helix? Or am I doing something wrong with the cabling? Thanks in advance for your help!!!
  11. ah okie...I did not look at that...I just dropped a FXloop1 block in blindly...my bad...will update as soon as I check that out...
  12. Yes it does...if only the left cable is connected the amplifier works as expected..
  13. I don't have the preset with me right now as I'm away from the Helix..but will be more than happy to share it as soon as I'm able to get back to it...I'm also baffled and I checked a couple of youtube videos to make sure that I'm doing the cabling correctly...what baffles me is when I put the instrument cable into the Right output of the Helix, the amplifier stops responding...I wonder why that is the case
  14. Thanks Jim!!! Your explanation is really detailed and clean...thank you very much for pointing out that resource...
  15. Hi Folks, I'm a Helix newbie and I'm still learning about how to use the set up properly. I recently decided to get a PRS Mt 15 head and hooked it up using the four cable method. My cabling is as follows Guitar --> Helix Guitar in Helix FX Send <--> Amp Input Helix FX Return <--> Amp FX send Helix 1/4 inch LEFT out Mono <--> Amp FX Return Within the helix I'm using a block for FX loop 1 with a wah pedal before the FX loop block and a delay and reverb after. I did not touch the path outputs. Now I'm trying to run my rig stereo but my stereo rig is not another amp but just an FRFR monitor. Basically the goal is to use the preamp from the MT 15 and feed it into a cabinet IR which will then be pushed into the FRFR. To achieve this, I tried the following Cabling: Helix 1/4 inch RIGHT out <--> FRFR input Path: Split path right after the FXloop block. Added a delay (100% wet with 20 seconds and no feedback) along with an IR Now I also panned both the split and the main paths to be hard left/hard right Result: I'm getting no sound out of my amp now and while I'm getting a sound out of the FRFR clearly the preamp is not engaged. Could someone help me in identifying what I'm doing wrong? Thanks
  16. Hello Everyone, I have been a user of the Helix for the last several months and it has been a totally wonderful experience. At this point I'm developing a rig which will allow me to use stereo effects and also a potentially useful Wet-Dry-Wet scenario as well. I would like to seek advice on what you folks think might be the optimal path. Current Set up: Currently I hook up the helix to a Headrush 112 FRFR. For live situations I usually hook up the helix to FOH and use the Headrush as my monitor. What I would like to do is to think more about moving towards a WDW set up where I have something on stage to capture the dry signals and then send the wet signals through to FOH. For this I'm considering a couple of options Option 1: Get another FRFR and route a dry path in the Helix into that. I guess this is the cheaper solution. However, both when going through FOH as well as the FRFR. Although the FRFR seems to work fine, I wonder if I can improve upon the sounds that I can get from the Helix if I go with other options. Option 2: Get a Powercab plus. A big question is whether the Powercab Plus is worth the additional cost compared to say the Headrush or the Alto? The idea where would be to use one path in the helix with its preamps into the power cab with its speaker models as the dry channel. Use the second path and using the Helix amp/cab models split it stereo left and right into FOH as my wet channel. Option 3: Get a mini head/cab. I have been toying with the idea of investing in a mini head (e.g. Peavey 6505 or the EVH 5150 LBX) with a 1 X 12 cabinet to go with that. I guess price wise this would be close if not cheaper than a Powercab plus. The idea would be to patch this in with a 4CM method and use it as my dry channel and then use the amp/cab modeling within the helix for the wet channels going direct to FOH. Has anyone used this kind of a set up before? Any thoughts on that? If this is indeed a good path to take, does anyone have suggestions between the 6505 Mini, 5150 LBC or the PRS MT 15? I guess the LBX and MT will end up being more expensive once I add a cab to to it, but for now I'm ignoring that aspect. Thanks folks!!
  17. Thanks Amor! Helps indeed. I'm going to try this out tonight..
  18. Thanks Amor!! I’m using an iPad. I’m able to route the signal to an individual path. But the problem i I’m unable to switch easily between synth and guitar. Is there a way to assign one of the foot switches to turn on/off the synth?
  19. Hello folks, i was wondering if it is possible to assign a single expression pedal to control the volume of two separate signals in helix. For instance what I would like to do is assign say expression pedal in the heel position to a synth sound (using midi) and in the toe position to exclusive guitar sound and then a mix in between. currently I managed to get this to work using two expression pedals each assigned independently. Thanks for your help!!!
  20. Hello all, I have been toying with getting some synth sounds out of my rig. I have a Fishman Triple Play (FTP) unit and have the trial version of the Midi Guitar 2 with jam origin. My big problem is getting the routing straightened out with the helix as my main sound source. Let me explain this in a bit more detail What am I trying to achieve? My main idea is to have my core guitar patch coming out of the helix as being the dominant sound but occasionally use synth sounds for certain parts of the song (e.g. the synth part in Rebel Yell by Billy Idol). I had a look at several youtube videos. For example, this video here demonstrates pretty much what I would like to achieve with this set up The routing I use is slightly different from the video above. In my case, the Guitar with FTP -> Helix; Helix USB and FTP dongle --> Powered USB hub; Powered USB hub--> Camera connection kit adapter into the IPAD. The outputs from the helix (1/4) goes into my FRFR. Problem: My big problem is that I'm unable to separate the synth and the guitar. I would like to be able to separate the two sounds and also maybe even integrate them using an expression pedal. In the video above, it looks like Mark activates the synth sound by using a foot switch. However, my midi programming skills are virtually non existent, so any direction on how that can be programmed in would be great. Another alternative that I have considered is using Jam Origin's Midi Guitar 2. I only have the trial version but my feeling is that the FTP is superior with respect to tracking and latency but I'm might be completely wrong. Nevertheless, again I found this youtube video which I thought was fairly straightforward to implement. The routing in this case seems fairly easy. My guitar goes into the helix. The Helix USB is connected to the camera connection kit and the outputs (1/4 inch) goes into my FRFR. Problem: I pretty much did exactly as shown in the video where I create two parallel paths with the Y split assigned to an expression pedal. However, again I'm unable to separate the signals between the guitar and the synth sounds. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here either. Any help on routing in either/both of these cases is much appreciated. Thanks folks!!!!!
  21. @ Kilrahi...actually I bought this online from a retailer....i bought multiple items including a decent acoustic guitar, an audio interface and studio reference monitors...originally they priced me out with the LT...however they did not have that in stock and i would have to wait for four weeks before they could deliver the LT...basically told em i would rather cancel the entire order as against break up the order...then they brought the Floor to the negotiating table and i made a take it or leave it offer...i can only imagine the margins they make on this product :-)...
  22. Thanks to everyone for sharing their thoughts. After much haggling i managed to land a new Helix Floor for 1100. So I went with that given that it sounded like a good deal. The best I could negotiate on the LT was bring it down around 925.
  23. Thanks Kilrahi! I think your logic is great!!! DunedinDragon - I was thinking of using my Katana 100 with the Helix through the 4 CM route. The idea was to use this as my dry path and then maybe use the PA (for performance) and basic studio monitors (home use) to create some wet signals...Would using the Katana 100 be a bad idea with the Helix? Would I need to get the FRFR speakers? Also would not so expensive home PA system speakers do the trick? Thanks again!!!
