  1. That does not work. Robs tone even more. I have padded the guitar input and then adjusted the send levels which is kind of silly because the send is actually going into the front of the amp, so I am padding a pad as it were. That seems to allow the FX Loop clipping to not happen as often, but it still does when strumming hard, but maybe that is normal. This configuration does not rob tone. I also ended up turning the big volume knob on the Helix all the way up.
  2. OK I will give this a try if it works, I essentially use all of my effects loops up for this arrangement
  3. Can I have path A send 1 and return 1 and Path B send 2 and return 2 to keep the same 7CM wiring as the picture in my above post?
  4. I never did that. Would I just put the send right before the return kind of like I have now with just the loop? I do not think I tried that. As far as PC, I am going to try them. If I like them, I would not sell the GMs. Probably just use one and keep the other as back up, unless I can sell one at some point. What do you think of the PC?
  5. Thanks rd2rk. I really do appreciate all of your help. You have been great. Both amps are Grandmeisters. Even though one is a 36 and one is a 40. They are pretty much the same amp. I had Powercabs on order and then cancelled because I really want to use my amps, but I ordered them to avoid exactly what I am experiencing. Do you think I should go ahead and get the power cabs? If I play out I would never run both of these GMs anyway that would drive me and the soundman crazy. I would just run 4CM and use either a HX Effects or a MS 3 (if I want it simple) I am just trying to use the Stereo set up in the studio to get multiple amp tones and use my Piezo. As far as clipping. The sound is just fine as far as I can tell, it is just that the block keeps turning red on Path A on the clean tones on snapshot 3. Thanks, Bill
  6. Wish this thread was continued. I have the same issue with Helix and no matter what I do, the clipping keeps happening. FX Loop Block is red. I had talked to Line 6 and they said this was a known issue and it would be addressed in the next update, but that update just came out and no fix.
  7. Thank you again for doing this! I have moved these levels up and down at nauseam. It still clips no matter what I do on Snapshot 3 the clean channel.
  8. It is snapshot 3, that is clipping. The Clean Snapshot. The first two are fine. Always have been.
  9. Yup. No matter what I do, it is there. Only if I turn down the channel volume on the amp does it work and we are talking about half way down from where it is now. Why would I want to rob my tone this way? I can bring send, return 1/4" levels down on the helix as well as big volume knob and it is still there. I can even put a volume gain right after the FX loop, on the signal path. Turn it on so that no signal is going to my amp, dead quiet and the FX Loop Block still clips red on the Helix.
  10. Ok. Still getting the same problem. The first two snapshots with my overdrive sounds on the amp are not a problem. It is the clean channel that is causing it. Even when I switch the loops around it still does it in the other loop, so it is not the amp. I am getting to the point of giving up. I have been working on this for weeks now. I cannot get it to stop clipping
  11. Thanks! This looks good. I am going to try this now. I noticed the second Signal path with the second FX Loop is -10db. I don't think I had it like that before. I am not sure what you mean when you said you tied the output block levels to the fx loop bypass switches.
  12. Here is the preset (attached below). I took out the two return blocks that were there. I had them there because I was experimenting if having a separate send and return would help. I did not notice much, but not sure if I set it up right. Wish I could get this sorted out. I don't notice any clipping in the sound, but I am sure it is not supposed to be like this. You will notice that the 1/4" outs are both boosted by +3db. The 1/4 outs go to the amps FX Returns. This was the setting that matched the amp volume between FX loop on or off. I tried putting these back to 0 and the clipping still occurs. YMMV Also included a picture of how I have the 7CM set up. Thanks! Hemispheres.hlx
  13. rd2rk, Thanks for this. I am using Two H&K Grandmeisters one is the 36 and one is the 40. The one that is clipping is the 36 on a clean channel. Both amps use a serial FX Loop. I believe that the Master volume is after the FX Loop. I do not think it is sending back a line level. I believe it is at instrument level. I have tried messing with the send, return and 1/4 levels and that can make the clipping go away but then the amps sound like poop because when I switch off the FX loops on the amp they go back to their normal level which sounds great. I am including a picture of my signal path and a picture of the manual which outlines levels for FX loop of the amp. If I can get this issue under control, it will be awesome because my set up is pretty sweet. Thanks.
  14. Thank you. On the particular snapshot where it is clipping, all of the effects before the FX loop are off. It is a clean channel on my amp. My overdriven channels are not clipping.
  15. IN 4CM the FX Loop Block is clipping red. Big Volume Knob is at 12:30 All outputs seem fine. Instrument level.
  16. Yeah, I looked at the manual and the part about MIDI and CC was a bit confusing and explained that, but they said it could do that.
  17. Ah, crap. I was going to get the HX Effects for my fly rig but then saw how small the HX Stomp was and thought it did that. When I talked with someone at MF and I told them what I wanted to do, they said it would do that. I was not sure. Now I know. I need to return the HX Stomp and get the HX Effects. This is going to be used in 4CM with a tube amp and cab.
  18. I have read and through my little bit of experience so far, that the HX Stomp only sends Program Changes and not CC changes to external devices. I cannot find a way to do this. I thought that it did. I need to be able to have a couple of my parameters on my amp change with a foot switch on HX Stomp. For example boost on my amp is easily controlled on Helix through a CC but I do not see this on HX Stomp.

    Power Cabs?

I got them through Sweetwater with their bundle deal. I had ordered them before then canceled the order because I was not sure, then ordered them again. This time I will let them arrive, experiment but may very well send back. My Grandmeisters sound really good and I got a HX stomp to use with those, although I am thinking the HX Effects might have been a better solution. I may just end up using the Helix at home for 7CM and then direct in to my DAW mixer and studio monitors to practice and record. HX Effects for playing out with the GM.

    Power Cabs?

I hope I am not making a bad decision. Some people seem to really like them.

    Power Cabs?

I had given thought to the 212, but I like the flexibility of maybe only using one cab if I need to and that they are lighter, but then the down side is an extra trip to the car as it were with both cabs. My studio is small and the 212 is big and loud, so the two 112s might be an option. 7CM is really cool. Actually I run a 9CM sometimes since I use a guitar with a second output for Piezo and run a third signal path from AUX on the Helix out one of the XLRs and into a Fishman Loudbox. So I have stereo separation and then I can kick in the acoustic sound whenever I want. But, as you mention it is a lot of cables and a lot of configuring to get things just right and a lot of places along the way that could get things a little crazy. And who wants to do all of that set up for a gig? I made a snake with labels on all of the 1/4 inch jacks, but still a pain. I think to get the stereo and integration of the Piezo, using two 112 cabs would be much easier in the long run. Love my H&K GMs. I used to have the big Triamp with a 4x12 cabinet, but that was so loud and so much to move around and actually I think the GMs sound better with good tubes (Tung-Sol in one and JJs in the other). For a simple gig, I am just going to run one GM with the 2x12 and use an HX stomp for effects and to control everything. The other GM becomes a back up at that point. I may even just use the HX Stomp and a Power Cab if the PC works out. I too used to be a big purest. I had the POD and then the POD XT Live and was never completely happy with the tone. The H&K stuff gave me the tone and the flexibility I needed, but then I got the Helix to run the 7CM and although that is really cool, is a pain. So I started really tweaking the Helix and after getting some IRs, realized just how close modeling has come. Never thought I would say that or think we have arrived at that place, but we have. I think the PC might just take it that much further. The flexibility, ease of use and less chance for tubes failing, etc. (had a GM fail on me at a gig once. It was a bad tube, but then usually a bad tube can take something with it which it did and the amp had to go in for repair) Not a good scene.

    Power Cabs?

I am running the Helix into a small Yamaha mixer into two Yamaha HS 7 to monitor either playing with tracks or for recording. I am also running 7CM into two H&K Grandmeister each with matching 2x12 closed back cabs with V30s. The 7CM is a lot of fun to run stereo/dry-wet applications, but a pain in the butt because of having to make sure everything is routed properly, etc. Lots of cables and having to get both amps set up properly and there can be bleed in the FX loops. I am thinking of getting some power cabs so that I can run stereo a lot easier through Link cables and use this mostly for home playing and maybe some practice gigs. Playing out would be to use one of my Grandmeisters with 2x12 and HX Stomp unless the Power Cabs prove to be easier. Not sure if the Powercabs might be a stupid investment at this point. I know this topic has been discussed at nauseam here, but that is what I am considering. Any ideas on if the Power Cab + might be worth it?

    High Gain Amps

Found the culprit. It was a wiring issue on my end. Took some time to figure out. Thanks for the help.

    High Gain Amps

So, still relatively new to Helix. I got a great Plexi sound based on a Custom Tone download with some Greenbacks IRS and some Vintage 30 IRS from Celestion. What I am noticing is there is a lot of line noise in this patch. I know that High Gain amps have higher line noise, but this is a lot. Even more than my actual H&K Grandmeister on a high gain sound. I have all new cables. Not sure if this is normal and if so, where is a good place to put noise gate in the signal path for Helix without squashing tone? Thanks.
  25. Sometimes removing it then putting it back in the path works. I did not have this exact issue, but in a snap shot when I wanted a Volume block to turn on in one snapshot and off on another, it would not save that configuration, no matter how hard I worked at it. Deleted it from the path, then put it back in again and it is working. Who knows....
