  1. No problem to set up like that. Also, if you put it into Stomp mode, the 2 Preset buttons on the left become regular footswitches. I use stomp mode with presets that have 2 amps where one footswitch is used to toggle the amps.
  2. Perfect. Thanks. No worries about that. Thanks for all the help.
  3. Are you saying it's possible to adjust the Output Block Level for the XLRs? I thought only the digital outputs could be adjusted down, so being able to with the XLRs is exactly what I was hoping to do. Second, thanks for taking the time to check out the mixer manual. I know that took some time. I'm not actually the novice with the mixer that I am with the Helix (LOL) and I only use this for live sound, so the gain settings I could theoretically get away with for recording become non-workable for live shows for various reasons. You may already understand this, but I'm happy to give more detail if you'd like.
  4. OK, preset is attached. FYI, I use the Stomp mode. The Amp Channel footswitch switches between the Soldano clean and OD amps, and Exp pedal 2 controls the drive levels for the OD amp and the Dhyana pedal. You'll see that the level settings are raised for the cab and the compressor near the front. When I turned those down, the clean channel dropped enough to use the XLRs on full, but the OD amp and Dhyana pedals were quite a bit louder. These were all fairly even volume wise with those 2 levels raised. I didn't think that particular control on the comp would affect clean and overdrive tones differently, but apparently it does. Thanks for any insights. TR Sold CabMic.hlx
  5. I have a Soundcraft UI24r. The gain slider has to be set extremely low if the Helix XLR output is full. I take your point about the presets. I'll explore the various level/gain/channel volumes of each block and see if something got jacked up. If I need to post a preset, you mean export and then upload the hlx file, right?
  6. Right now, the big knob controls the XLR and 1/4", and the little knob controls the headphones. If I have to continue to use the big knob for my XLR (IOW, if the XLR full output can't be tamed), I'd like the little knob to control both the headphone output AND the 1/4" L/R outputs, and have the big knob control ONLY the XLR outputs. If I can tame my presets' output levels in some way without screwing up the tones and send full signal out of the XLRs, I'll set the big knob to 1/4 only and the little knob to headphones only. This is not a huge deal, but would be nice to have. If I'm not explaining well, no worries. My main mission right now is how to tame the XLR output without screwing up tones.
  7. Sorry, totally missed your response. Helix Floor. I was really hoping I could control only the headphones and 1/4" with the little knob, but that combo doesn't seem to be possible. I know I can control the XLR and 1/4" outputs with the big knob or control only the 1/4" if I want XLR output at full. That seems like a simple solution, but XLR at full is too much for my mixer (even with xlr output set to Mic) and changing my output on presets screwed up the sound on some of them, so right now I've got the big knob controlling XLR + 1/4". If I want to try the XLR at full again, what's the best way to control output level for whole presets? Should I add a gain block at the end of each preset and turn it down, or is there a better option? Thanks.
  8. Just to add data points, I had the problem one day where the pedal didn't go lower than 23% or something like that. Putting the pedal toe down, then turning it off and on fixed it. I assume an update fixed the problem along the way because I still sometimes forget to set it toe down before turning on and I haven't seen the problem again. It's also possible that there is occasionally a fluke at power on that causes the problem, which is not unheard of for digital equipment.
  9. False alarm. I had a split path in Path 1 that I didn't mention because I thought it was set up as serial. I should've checked that before I posted and/or included in my post. Thanks for the offer to help.
  10. Thanks for checking. I'll try to replicate and will post the before and after or report if it was a fluke.
  11. I have Path 1 with a Loop, Compressor, OD and 2 Amps feeding into Path 2 with cabinet and more effects. Path 2a splits right before it goes out the XLR outputs. That split shouldn't be relevant, but will detail in a bit. Path 2 has a parametric EQ block that I use for a boost placed right before the cab. No particular reason for that placement, but it's been working as intended. I wanted to add a couple of additional reverb and delay blocks to path 2 but needed to move something to make room. I had room after the second amp on Path 1, so I moved the EQ boost there. The move did not change the order of the blocks - the EQ was still the first effect after the amp. It did wipe out the EQ footswitch assignment, but easy enough to reset that. The EQ gain level is set to 3.5 and frequencies are tweaked to accentuate the mids just a bit. Before I moved the block, it would give a pretty noticeable boost. After I moved it to Path 1, it made almost no difference. Cranking the gain up to 10 made some difference, but still not as much. Like I said, I only added reverb and delay, so I hadn't done something dumb like add a compressor. I removed the new reverb and delay from Path 2, but still no difference. The split on Path 2 I mentioned was for a separate EQ on Path 2b before going out the 1/4" output to my physical amp for monitoring. I don't think that's relevant because the EQ boost worked in the mains and my monitor amp before I moved it. After the move, both outputs had the new lack of boost. Any idea what's happening here? It isn't a DSP issue, is it? AFAIK, running out of DSP on a path just prevents blocks being added, not the functionality of settings on blocks in the path.

    Guitar harsh in IEMs

Not a dumb question at all. I've had that happen, but no problem with that now.
  13. Is it possible to assign either knob to the L/R outputs? I'm sending the XLRs direct to PA, and the headphone output to my second IEM rig input. The mixer aux is connected to the first IEM input, so I can blend and balance the volumes between full band and my guitar as needed. That's working fine, but I would prefer to run the second IEM line from the Left Mono 1/4" output instead of the headphone TRS output. I've tried various combos of the knob assignments in the Global Settings>Ins/Outs, but no dice. I realize I can change the output from Line to instrument, but the knob volume control is what I really need. Thanks.

    Guitar harsh in IEMs

Thanks. We've only had e-drums in the band and everything goes direct to PA, so my wedge monitor has been the only obstacle to a silent stage. I tested running the Helix headphone out directly into the 2nd channel of my wireless IEM transmitter, and I put an EQ in that path with the high cut at 5kh. That makes a huge difference, and I'm able to blend the guitar from the mixer aux in if I need more high end. I'll get a chance to try this at next week's band practice. My only issue now is the cheapo Phenyx wireless set. The overall sound is fine, but there's a lot of white noise. I tried the IFI Audio IEMatch, but all it did was attenuate the level to the point that it's almost unusable. The other guitar player has a Shure PSM 300, so I'm going to try it. If that is much quieter, I'll upgrade to it or a similar rig.

    Guitar harsh in IEMs

Yes, this is why I ditched IEMs the first time I tried them - I like being able to move a bit to find a sweet spot. I've managed to tame the shrillness, so that's an improvement but I'm still not sure if I'm going to be happier with it than the wedge. I have a little time to keep playing around with it before the next gig.
  16. I understand. I was trying to expand on your answer, not dispute what you said. As I posted back to him a few minutes ago, we're all guessing because he didn't have enough information in the OP.
  17. OK. You said Helix in the first post, so I assumed Helix Floor or rack. I have a POD GO, but I don't know how similar the other POD models are to the Helix. Assuming your POD works like the Helix, the only reason for the loop is to put an external pedal, etc in between other blocks. The loop shouldn't change the sound of the pedal itself, and as rd2rk said, it introduces a bit of noise when the loop is enabled so that's something to consider. Hard to answer this question without more info. As you see from previous answers, we're all making some assumptions here. You should put your pedal through the loop and see how it sounds. If no good, we need to know whether the pedal sounds good with any other equipment (old amp or whatever). If not, I doubt you can make it sound good in the POD no matter how you connect it. If you like the pedal with other equipment, tell us what the signal chain is in the pod AND what you're listening through. If guitar amp, normal input or bypassing the preamp? If computer, are you going through an audio interface? The more details you can give, the easier it is for us to answer without guessing.
  18. Assuming that he really only wants one path or the other and not combined, is it possible to assign a footswitch to the split block?
  19. There's no reason the pedal should sound very different going through the loop than it would sound in a non-Helix chain. Are you considering the loop so you can place it after other Helix blocks (like compression), or some other reason?
  20. If he wants to use a Helix compressor, wah or volume pedal before the distortion, that would be a reason to place the loop blocks after those.

    Guitar harsh in IEMs

Thanks. No one else has complained about my guitar sound in their IEMs, so either it's already less squeaky for them or they turn it down quite a bit. Routing the additional aux send is a great idea, so I'll check it out. I get that the KZs are entry level, but studio recordings sound pretty good on them. IE, the guitars on them don't sound at all harsh. Wouldn't that indicate that the problem with my own guitar is something other than the KZs?

    Guitar harsh in IEMs

Actually, it is possible to use one of the paths to send to the headphone output only, and to put EQ, etc in that path. You've reminded me that I've done that in the past and routed it to my second input in the wireless IEM transmitter (Yes, this is my second attempt at IEMs), which let me blend that guitar into my IEM with a lot more control. Unfortunately, that would leave my harsh guitar in everyone else's aux so I prefer to figure out what I can do on my aux output so others can replicate if they want.
  23. This isn't a Helix question, per se, but I think peeps here will understand better than on a mixer forum. My Helix goes out stereo XLR straight to a UI24r mixer. I'm happy with the sound coming out of the mains. I've been using a small wedge monitor from one of the aux outputs, but I'm exploring IEMs. I'm trying out a pair of KZ ZS10 Pros. The overall sound is pretty good when playing songs from USB or from playing back multitrack recorded shows EXCEPT that the guitar is very brittle in the IEMs. My guess is that I'm more or less simulating the effect of putting my ear right up against the center of the guitar speaker, whereas a wedge monitor is distanced a bit and mostly off axis. Any tips for taming the guitar sound in the aux without messing with the sound going through the mains? AFAIK, I can only adjust EQ for my overall aux mix, not for specific channels so I know there will be some balancing between taming the guitar and not dampening the overall sound too much. FYI, I have a wireless unit for the IEMs, but I'm doing all the setup straight from a headphone jack to remove the wireless from the equation. Thanks for any suggestions.
  24. Seconded. One amp for clean, one for high gain and rocker pedal set to adjust gain level (more level control that way than with gtr volume knob). Have never had a complaint about playing Dire Straights with an LP, even from guitar players.
  25. I understand that the Global EQ is not a set and forget item for eq in the guitar's range, but I don't think there would be any downside to having it set with the HPF and LPF that you'll want for, well, global use.
