  1. You're not alone. I bought a brand new JTV-59 in March of 2015 and have had problems every three or four months with it requiring me to send it to get repaired. I sent it out for repair at the beginning of June because everything quit working. The 1/4" jack quit working around the beginning of May so I just used the VDI cable. I didn't send it back at that time because I was really just sick and tired of shelling out $40 or so for shipping every few months. Then the whole thing went dead so I had to send it to Sweetwater for repair again. They replaced the entire jack assembly and I got the guitar back yesterday. I've had the guitar for 15 months and 3 months of that time it has been getting repaired. I played it for an hour or so yesterday then put it away and played one of my other guitars. It's a shame because it's a nice guitar cosmetically and I like the sound of it with or without the modeling, but I'm just tired of dealing with it. You shouldn't have to worry about your guitar "breaking" when you play it, especially a guitar in this price range. Oh well, live and learn I guess.
  2. I use Ernie Ball strings. I agree with your point about changing strings on the JTV-59. Who ever came up with that bridge is a moron. What I do when I change strings is put a capo on 12 fret after I get the string in at the bridge. Then I do the normal at the tuning peg, tight the string and take the capo off. Give it a try next time you change strings. A lot less hassle and you can change strings in about 5 minutes.
  3. It sounds like the UX2 isn't good. Try this http://www.sweetwater.com/store/manufacturer/Focusrite Plus it may be the POD Farm software just sounds like that. I tried POD Farm years ago and didn't like it. I use Amplitube, BIAS FX & TH3 for my guitar. I know those amp sims upsample which helps getting a good clear sound. Plus I use Sonar Platinum as my DAW and in Sonar you have the option to upsample as well. For what it's worth, I find Line 6 products to be very "temperamental". Sometimes they work great and sometimes (for no known reason) they don't. I got on here yesterday to find an answer to my JTV-59 problem (1/4 plug just stopped working) and stumbled on your post.
  4. it looks like you are running the sample buffer pretty high I believe it said 4096) I run mine at 256 or less when tracking and but it up to 1024 when mixing. Lowering the buffer size should help. Move the slider (where it says usb audio streaming, below sample rate converter) as low as you can without "clicks" or "pops" or dropouts. If none of that works, you may need a new interface, not a new computer. Because the audio is being that you hear is coming from the Line 6 drivers, not your computer. You can get good interfaces for less than the hundred bucks now-a-days.
  5. I had the same problem years ago and here is what I did and you can try it too: 1.) switch the sample rate from 16/44.1 to 24/44.1 (or even 24/48) 2.) make sure the input of your dry guitar is not clipping into pod farm. Check the input level in pod farm (if you can, I don't use pod farm.). If it's in the red it's too high and needs to be turned down. But if the input is too low you have to turn it up or else you won't get a good enough signal to drive the amp sim. I use the POD HD as my interface or IK Stealth Pedal to record dry guitars and I have to boost the guitar signal on some guitars by 12db just to get the input in the amp to a healthy level. Once you get your input level good in the amp sim then check the tracks output level in the DAW and make sure it sits between -12 & -18db. if it doesn't then adjust the main output level in the amp sim to get the level right. Hope that helps.
  6. I bought a JTV-59 three months ago and really enjoy playing it. I bought it mostly for the acoustic and sitar sounds. I found the modeling pretty good. I liked the "Lester" model the best. The Strat sounds are"meh" to me but everything else sounds good and I have a Strat so no big deal. The neck profile is a thicker than what I'm used to but after playing the acoustic models for a while it's nice to have a thicker neck to have something to "push" against (if that makes sense) a thinner neck would probably "feel" weird when playing the acoustic models. The 12 string and sitar models are some of my favorites and sound pretty natural to me. As far as alternate turnings go I like the ability to play in drop-D with such ease and it really sounds good. I fiund that when using some of the more drastic alternate tunnings it's best to use headphones or make sure you monitor loud enough so you can't hear the acoustic vibration of the guitar. That's probably the overtones people are talking about because when you record with it and play the track back you can't hear it. But here's where the problems start. About two weeks ago the guitar started acting funny; the modeling stared going in and out. I found this would happen after about an hour of playing and when I put the guitar down for a while it would be okay. But free an hour of playing the modeling when start acting up again. Then last week the guitar started cycling through the modeling while playing. I have tried reflashing the firmware several times and it's still messed up. Actually when I hook the guitar up to the variax workbench you can see on the screen the guitar cycling through the different models. It's disappointing that a guitar that is only three months old is having problems. I bought it brand new from Sweetwater and the serial number on the guitar indicates it was made in 2015, well after all the known problems of the first few batches were made clear. So I'm sending it back to Sweetwater today and they are going to fix it or send me a replacement. But I wonder what is going to be in store for me after a couple of years with thing? Right now it's under warranty so no big deal, but only time will tell.
  7. My JTV-59 was doing the same thing and as of three hours ago the variax modeling quit working. I noticed the string volume about 10 days ago, then about a week ago I noticed a "sputter" when playing, I thought the 1/4" cable was going out so I replaced the cable but still had the random "sputter". I tried it with the variax cable to the HD500 and still had the random sputter. Well, a few hours ago the 3-way toggle quit working only on the variax modeling, it still works with the Mag PUPs. I re-flashed the firmware 3 times with no luck. When I connected to the Variax Workbench and played the guitar you could see on screen the guitar switching between the three positions of the model I had it on. I went through all the models and it did the same thing. That was the "sputter" that I have been hearing. The thing is I bought this guitar on March 27 of this year, so it's only a few months old and it's already having problems. I don't want to think about what will happen in a couple of years. From reading the forums it appears that the Variax is plagued with problems. Oh well. Live and learn I guess. I'm fortunate that I own other guitars so I won't be without one while I send this off to get fixed. But I feel bad for the people who sold their guitars to buy a Variax who are left with nothing when the guitar has to be sent off for repair.
  8. Like others have said, I want to hear more sound samples. I watched the videos and they talk a lot about what it can do, but I want to hear what it can do. I checked out the samples on Sound Cloud and they are pretty good. But I have to say, I have been using bias and bias fx (the app and desktop versions) for about 6 weeks now and I am totally blown away. Plus the ability to make tones on my iPad, put it in the cloud, then start up my DAW and have those tones waiting for me is pretty cool. It's not better than Line6, just different. But I don't think the asking price of $1500 for the Helix is too much. You are basically getting a computer with software. It's a tough market out there when it comes to amp sims with so many to chose from and being so subjective as to what sounds good or "real".
  9. When recording I pan the mixer left and right then put all the amps and effects on the left side and leave the right side dry so so I can record the dry sound too and have that as an option. I'm not using stereo effects on the left channel, it is the amp and effects that are before the amp (wash, distortion, etc).
