Tone test loop

I'm looking for some method to test changes to tones without having to grab and hook up my guitar.  I'm thinking of something like the 4 or 5 test loops that are in the Pod iOS app that allow you to hear the changes playing as you make them.  I don't see anything like that in the Edit software... in fact, the Edit software is looking pretty dated, as if it hasn't had a major update or overhaul for a while.  It's a shame that there are features in the $20 iOS app that aren't present in the software for the Pod HD.  Hopefully, that is a feature that could be considered for an update.

Anyway, does anyone have a method they use to test tones without a guitar, when you are in a hurry or just making a small tweak?  Thanks for any suggestions you can offer.

I just wrote an entire docudrama outlining the to answer that.

But I deleted it and replaced it with:

Oy! I sometimes wonder what it would be like to be as clueless as the what seems to be a growing majority of the world.

Because I think that sums it up much more simpler than anything else that would go over a lot of people's heads.

Thanks for the helpful comments.

So, I guess the answer is to record a loop in advance with the guitar and pedal and it will remain saved in the pedal indefinitely?  I'm asking these questions because I don't use the looper at all.  I have no use for it outside of this specific purpose.  What I was looking for was a preset loop that I could click a button to quickly use within the software, like the iOS Pod software that I mentioned.  If I make changes while the loop from the pedal is playing, will they be reflected in real-time as they are in the iOS app?

Thanks.

Hi Drybonz,

If you put the looper in the "pre" position (when you engage the looper, one of the buttons allows you to swap between "pre" and "post, look at the user manual for more details) then it records your signal BEFORE any effects (i.e. it puts the looper at the beginning of your effect chain).

Record what you want, and you can set the looper to repeat continuously or you can press the "play once" button. Again, it will be easier for you to read the manual to figure out how to use the looper. It's pretty easy to use.

When you tweak settings or change patches, the looper playback will change accordingly (assuming it's in the "pre" position).

By contrast, if the looper is in the "post" position (at the end of the chain) it will record with all of the effects and will not change as you change effects or patches.

There is a limitation with this - you can only record one lick/riff at a time (it can be over-dubbed, but each dub just plays on top of the previous dubs). It is also not saved if you turn off the power, so you'll need to keep power on as long as you are tweaking or re-record the lick if you turn off the device.

Hopefully that makes sense.
