Helix low SPDIF output

unless i missed it in the manual, i can't seem to find a way to up the SPDIF output volume going in to protools.  i have to max out the fader in pro tools that the Helix is coming in on for it to keep up w/the other tracks volume-wise.  any ideas?

The spdif output does seem of a lower volume than other outputs. As far as I know, there is no direct way to adjust for this. Are you using the spdif for monitoring, or recording?

 

I use the spdif for monitoring, and record via Helix's usb, so I don't find the lower volume much of a problem. But if you're on an apple OS, the usb could currently be a problem. Have you tried making the patches you use louder?

I have the same problem. What i do is up the output block or you can go put a few gain blocks at end of chain for recording (stereo).

I try to keep unity gain in my patches. I play a raw guitar and go from their. Too low for recording without a boost. The 1/4 and xlr are post d/a converter and have gain stages and options. I assume spdif is pre d/a so no analog staging.

 

I dont know how hard it is to tell the digital info in realtime to be louder. I know the dsp's have the power to do it but i think the spdif is post dsp. I wouldnt want to waste dsp on spdif. I presume not as simple as a volume knob and keeping digital without converting twice.

I find that the USB 7 direct output volumes are a little lower in output then other interfaces I have. I have to turn S-Gear's Input control all the way up for the guitar to drive the amps properly with Helix.

 

I'm told that the USB 7 direct output is unity gain, so the low input is coming from the guitar, and isn't getting the gain provided by a typical audio interface that has input gain controls.

 

Helix should also provide some input gain controls for direct output so that it can drive computers properly.
