Connect Pod Hd 500 To Amp

Hello,

 

I'm a new user of Hd 500.. how is the method to plug the hd 500 cabling in amplifier?

 

We have some options in right side of hd 500, like LINE or AMP - GUITAR or PAD.

 

What the diference?

Guitar In -

Plug your guitar cable in here. If you are using high gain or active pickups you may want to set the

 

Guitar In - switch on the top of your POD HD500 to PAD

 

. There's really no rule, use what sounds best

Try This: 4 Cable Method

 

 

Cabling

Cable 1:  Guitar Out --> HD Guitar In

Cable 2:   HD500 FX Send --> Amp Input

Cable 3:  Amp FX Send --> HD500 FX Return (Left)

Cable 4:   HD500 1/4" Out (Left) --> Amp FX Return

 

Amp Settings

Master volume(if you have one)  = Low (for now, while you are setting up.)

Amp Loop Switch  = -10dB (Instrument level)

Amp Loop Turned on !

 

If the amp loop has a 'mix' control, make sure this is set to 100%

 

HD500 Settings

Guitar Input Pad = Normal (unless you hear clipping from your guitar due to very powerful pickups)

Master Volume = 100% (See the note about master volumes below)

1/4" Out Switch = 'Amp'

Loop Level Switch = 'Stomp'

System Output = 'Stack Power Amp' (within system settings)

If the amp has an fx loop then you are good to go! If not, Guitar in on the HD500. Out of HD to fron of the amp.

I dont know what is fx loop rs :/ but i think that 4 cabling method do not works at this amp, cause it have 2 entries only.

The FX Loop is probably on the back - post a picture of the rear of the amp.

 

Otherwise, you can go right into the front, and set the HD to "Combo" in the output section of system properties.

I'm connecting with this form:

 

Cabling: Guitar in - My guitar

Cabling: R/Mono(connected)  1/4 OUT    L/Mono - Input do Amplifier

 

Setup HD 500:

 

Menu:  3/9 (Outputs)

Guitar + Variax Ch1 - this is the combo?

On my HD500, Section 3 is inputs (I think yours is too if the choices are Guitar + Variax)

 

You want section 4 - Outputs. Choose Combo Front.

 

On the Inputs, you want to select Guitar for Ch1 and something different (Aux, for instance) for channel 2 to avoid too much signal going to the HD500 and it sounding messy.

My question is, why do i get no sound when the fx pedal is off. I thought the preamp was unaffected before the fx pedal?

any insight would be welcomed

Do all the above stuff but do these as well

-set an FX Loop into an FX block on Pod. It's the last stomp box selection. Make sure it's where you want your split of pre and post effects.

- edit FX Loop to insure all levels are max.

- adjust volume so when using Pod it is equal level to going direct with guitar into amp. Make sure it's not louder or it will peak.

- put a noise gate right after FXLoop block to minimize noise.

- I set my Pod to Direct/Studio. You don't want any artificial modelling when using your amp for tone.

 

This should round things out. You will be able to put wah and other FX pre, while chorus,reverb etc post FX without much noise. I do find the Pod changes the character a bit when no FX are on compared to direct plug in.
