alpag
OTT? You bet, but hey, with a Helix, the sky is the limit. I was using a Grey Flanger, compressor, EQ, Line 6 Elektrik amp, delay and masses (too much) of reverb for that Royal Albert Hall sound. Just having fun. duncann
Nice. It doesn't sound to me like anything is over the top. I really like that tone.
alpag
Thanks Duncann, Yeah I like what the Flanger is adding here. Its set quite low, but it gives movement when I'm stationary. I like the FX on the Helix. Best digital fx I've heard.
duncann
However you have it set, it sounds like that's exactly how it should be. Combined with the reverb, I really like how the tone itself adds to the mood of things, dynamically changing with a lot of lush overtones and harmonics. Or as you say, giving movement when stationary. Check out the new flanger, the dynamix, it can be controlled by an envelope, so it responds to what you're actually playing. It's kind of like the auto-filter but more flangerish sounding. Makes for some interesting tones.
alpag
I'll have to give the dynamix a try. Sounds interesting. Thanks for the tip.

alpag
Thanks Robbie. I must confess I pretty much threw this together, but as a valve tone snob haha, I know what I want it to sound like. I don't think it sounds digital at all, and that's why I went for the Helix.

Al https://soundcloud.com/ju287v3/bach-helix-mp3 Great stuff and great playing! Love me some Bach whether it is Procol Harum's "A Whiter Shade Of Pale", neo-classical Yngwie on guitar, old Walter Carlos "Switched On Bach" on the Moog, or a full orchestra. It just blew my mind how he changes key to maintain interest.Love it. I recorded this on windows XP. My PC is that old. So I can't export the settings for upload unfortunately. But will get a new laptop soon, that should open up some doors like IRs and editor ect. If you're interested I'll post the settings here the old fashioned way. Really most fx only had 1 or 2 changes from default settings. Al
alpag
Ok so I just looked at my settings for this patch and its almost all default settings. Guitar is a Schecter C1 with EMGs. No noise gate. Gray Flanger default settings. Simple EQ, Low +1.0/ mids -0.5/ High +1.0. Amp+cab in one. Low cut 72hz high cut 6.0khz Then make fx loop. Put the simple delay under the amp. Change only feedback to 30 and mix to 36. Then I used a large hall reverb in my mixer. You can try one on the top line after the amp, but with the level at 60% or so. Take this as a starting point for your own big solo tone. Al
