Mesa Simul-Class Amps + 212 IR's for the New Helix 2.0 Cali IV amp + Sound Clips (+2204 Mod & Fatality with IRs)

Line 6 has the new Cali IV paired up with the Cali 4x12 cab in the presets, which sounds great!

I pulled a couple of older v3 experimental IR's I made of my Recto 212 and SM57 with a Mesa Mark V and a Mesa 290 amp.  Both of these have the Mesa Simul-Class power sections similar to the Mark IV.  I spent some time jamming them with the new Cali IV models and found that they are a great pairing.

Update - Soundclips added to Soundcloud comparing Cali IV, Fatality, and 2204 Mod with MesRec212_2ioaD_ST_EL34.wav

In each of the clips, the Line 6 Factory Cabs are first. then the IR's. I am using the new factory presets that came with the 2.0 update and only replacing the cabs. Guitar is a PRS Singlecut Trem.

The Cali IV and Fatality Amps are using my Mesa Recto 212 / Mesa Simul 290 IR. The Mesa Siml 290 is a stereo version of the Mark IV Simul-Class Power Section.

The 2204 Mod is using my Mesa Recto 212 and Mesa Stiletto EL34 amp IR.

Now I definitely have inspiration and motivation to do new full sets of Recto 2x12 and Mark V 1x12 combo cab IR's with the 4 dynamic mics and the Mark V and Simul 290 power amp sections...as well as a great new amp model to test them with and optimize them for. I'll try to work on these this weekend.

Thank you so much Line 6 for the great new Mesa Mark IV models as well as Snapshots and other new features!

Such an great time to be a musician right now!!!

P.S.  Ugh...my wallet just cringed...I think I found a 90's Mark series 412 cab loaded with Mesa Black Shadow EVM's locally. It's open back top and closed back bottom.  How cool would that be for IR's.  I cant say I have ever seen IR's of this guy.  Anyone wanna chip in ;)

I have seen you have made a ton of IR's just randomly throughout the forum, thanks for all your work! is there a place where you have all of them compiled that I could download them? if not that's cool. just curious

Also that's a sweet find! I've been looking for a pair of EV12 speakers for a bit now so I can run both sides of my fryette power amp in stereo with my helix.

On the lines of chipping in, while I know the updates for the helix are free, and hope they continue to be, and this idea might seem stupid to some. I think it would be cool if specific amps/pedals/effects people wanted on the helix could be "kickstarted" in a sense to cover the cost if a more obscure/boutique amp/effect is wanted.

I know there is upvoting on the idea scale, but for more of the boutique/obscure stuff people might want, could be cool to be able to put your money where your mouth is and pitch a couple bucks towards it to raise the money for L6 to purchase one and pay for the modeling/engineering of it. I'm not saying to get rid of ideascale, or the free updates, but if I wanted a darkglass microtubes B7K modeled I doubt enough people know what it even is, let alone enough to get the upvotes needed to get it on the radar.

But there might be a few hundred/thousand people out there willing to pitch some cash to cover the costs and make the more boutique stuff more viable to get done *cough* dumble *cough*. I still hope that the updates remain to be free to owners, but being able to pitch a few bucks to get to pick what is being modeled could be cool.

Will this happen doubtful, due to time constraints, having to put a person on monitoring it, and the legal NDA stuff. But still could be cool to do. Maybe you could do something similar

We probably won't get to 80-90% of the stuff on our to-do list (it's MASSIVE), but the Darkglass is on it.

I keep forgetting to post a link to the root IR folder with these incremental IR posts.

Ha I was just kidding with the chipping in thing.  Although i think there are 3rd party dev kit ideas on Ideascale.  I mean there are tons of us with great gear that would be happy to contribute if we had the tools. Not to mention maybe manufacturers and builders big and small being able to contribute as well.  Oh well, I digress.

The guy still has the cab...$350.  I've read in a few places EV12Ls make pretty good frfr speakers.  Maybe that could be another use for them.

Ironic how i originally purchased Helix as an accessory for my tube gear, and now my tube gear pieces are IR accessories for Helix.

That's really good to know!

I originally bought this for guitar but have only really been using it for bass, as that's what I'm playing in my current project, and its been awesome, and saved my butt on a couple gigs. I know bass has a much smaller populous than guitar in the MFX world so its nice to know some stuff is being picked up.

You guys are really killing it and I absolutely love my Helix so huge thanks to you all at L6

Thanks Roscoe for the link I will definitely have to delve into those!

Since you mention you are using Helix for bass, i just posted some Mesa bass IRs and a cool cab + DI Helix pathing method.

I could certainly use a little user testing and feedback on them as they are my first bass IRs.

I'll definitely check those out this weekend! thanks man! what mics did you use on those? And I'm definitely curious as to how you make IR's I have this 6x12 acoustic fridge from the 70s that destroys everything else I play through and am sad when I cant bring it to a gig so it would be cool to be able to model that for myself

I used an AKG D112 mic on the bass cabs, (Dynamic 112 in Helix).  I list the gear in the forum post and a readme text file I put with the IR's.

There is something satisfying about IR'ing your own gear that you used prior to Helix.  Helix amps don't feel quite as foreign to me with IR's of my Recto 2x12 and now bass 2x12 cab IR's.  I think everyone with an interest should try it.  And we all have great gear!

I love the Line 6 amps, both tone and functionality.  I can get all of my personal standard tones out of them.  Putting your own gear IR's with them is like putting mom's gravy on them.  It's just that familiar taste you grew up with that feels right...for better or worse...and no one makes gravy like mom ;)

I use Helix, my PC DAW, Voxengo Deconvolver, and my mics and gear. Helix's all-in-one USB audio interface, USB MIDI control, routing capability, looper, AB pathing, cab & IR blocks, and just plain user interface makes IR creation for Helix amps incredibly efficient.  I have everything on presets: "IR Setup", "IR Capture", "IR Test".  I think those with a Mac and Logic with its all-in-one IR creation utility have it a little easier.

Now if Helix had an IR utility, similar to Fractal's, I probably wouldn't even need to turn my computer on.   I mean look at that beautiful screen, controls, capacitive footswitches, etc.  It screams utilities and apps.  I've watched the Fractal IR Utility video, that looks like working on a Nintendo Gameboy (self=dated). Oh, I guess Mac/PC utilities are fine too.

But if it was all in Helix, I might be going to Guitar Center to "test out" some gear.  The sales staff would come around every 5 mins "Are you finding everything okay sir, do you need anything"...to which I would reply "I'm fine, just bonding with the amp".  If it's not in Helix, the scenario might be "sir, you've returned 20 cabinets in 30 days, you have reached your limit"...to which I would reply "okay, cash back would be fine" ;)

I posted a request on IdeaScale a while back.  It's In Review, so I'm not sure if you can vote on it.

I also have lots of pedals I don't want to part with as I see technology like BIAS FX giving users the ability to tone match, maybe even fully model them as well.

I bet it's not long before one or more of these modelling companies puts the tools in the users hands and develops the software to do it as well as the hardware to put it on.  BIAS does this fairly well with BIAS Amp & BIAS FX, but I would really like to see a company like Line 6 do it :)

Dang, I think I'm standing on a soapbox now <stepping down slowly> ;)

P.S. I think I just reached enlightenment with this post...it's #500 and made me a Gear Head...or is that Crack Head...hmm.  Either way, the universe is speaking.

Congrats on the gear head status!

I agree theres just that something something you get with fimiliarity with your gear.

Do you have those presets for IR creation on the Helix? I have a PC and a really old mac with logic pro on it unfortunately the mac works waaaaay better than the newer PC and the Helix's driver can't be downloaded on the Mac becasue its too old :(.
