roscoe5
I'm still on a quest for my final FRFR solution and fresh off of experimenting with acoustic guitar IR's. A couple of questions about L2t / L3t acoustic guitar modelling... 1) Has anyone tried to access the L2t / L3t Ch1 Variax acoustic guitar body modelling of the L2t / L3t with Helix? 2) How does the acoustic body modelling sound with a piezo-equiped electric guitar? It looks like the acoustic body modelling is on Ch1 of those speakers. I'm not sure if this is accessible over L6 Link. I would imagine you could run a second cable to Ch1 and set the routing for an acoustic patch. Then you would probably use the speaker's XLR out rather than Helix to FOH to capture the acoustic modelling in the signal.
rbum
Before I come to your question, may be good to know my history regarding piezo equipped eletric guitars.... I use piezo guitars since 1985 (Godin LGX), also a PRS 22 (since 2 years), a Godin xtsa and an Ovation Elite 12. So being used to get a decent sound out of a GT-10 and L2t / L3t I wanted to give a variax JTV-89F a try with the Helix and ordered one. But I was disappointed. ...I did not like the acoustic modeling sounds at all... I wish the JTV-89F would provide an original piezo signal without any modelling, but so I returned it. But I did try the sound of the JTV-89F with modeling of the L2t before without helix and for me it still sounded artificial (picking might do, strumming lacks a bit of ...soul?!) I liked the sound of the other guitars and the L2t modeling better. But Not as good as Helix + L2t without modeling. So That's my approach to get real acoustic sounds and good rock guitar sound to audience and stage: I use the aux input for the piezo and the 1/4 as acoustic outputs which go via a stereo DI to FOH - real acoustic sounds possible. The mags go in via guitar in and through xlr out to FOH, with global eq to cut both ends. For monitoring I use the (mixed) earphone output, here the global eq is on piezo and mags, separate volume possible, the signal is summed to a mono signal which goes to channel 1 of L2t. I have full control over the stage sound depending on the location. Channel 2 is used for my voice signal coming from FOH and can be altered for the stage sound. The other monitoring of the band gets to the xlr input at the back of L2t. So Helix + L2t gives me real sound control on stage not depending on the FOH and FOH can work on acoustic and electric sound separately for audience - something I wished for since... maybe 1985... (not to mention SNAPSHOT POSSIBILITIES - outstanding!) For small clubs without FOH, I use L3t as speaker... Ralph

rbum
just EQ'ing the piezo signal. I did try some of the free IRs, but for me again they did not help the overall sound. I mainly use studio preamp and bass amps to give the signal more gain, volume ... and sure the different chorus or flanger fx can make the sound softer, wider. No need for caps at the moment. But still just beginning and trying new variations like parallel acoustic paths with different amps, eq etc. Mixing distorted rock guitars beneath clear acoustic sounds ... As we don't do cover songs but our own songs, there's plenty of "room" for creating new sounds. I might post some in customtone in a few weeks during holiday. roscoe5
Awesome. Thank you so much for the info. I have though hard about the Godins and am currently considering the GraphTech Ghost piezo system in my PRS Singlecut Trem. I've heard some great YouTube videos of that alone. Rocco_Crocco
Roscoe... have you considered getting a couple of these? Alto TS112... http://www.guitarcenter.com/Alto/TS112A-12-Active-2-Way-Speaker-1313248732495.gc I own one and got it on sale at GC for $199. I use it in conjunction with my Tech 21 Power Engine, and I have to say it sounds great. Not that is sounds great for $199, but it sounds great overall. Plenty loud to play with a heavy handed drummer and it has been reliable for well over a year.
roscoe5
I've considered the Alto speakers, and they look like a great full range solution. I had just noticed that the L2t's had built in acoustic guitar body modelling, and was wondering if there was a way to get it to FOH if I were to use an L2t as a monitor or backline. I have been using IRs which work okay for now.
