BlownGuitar
I am strongly considering the Firehawk 1500 as an FRFR system - whether just using it with the Firehawk amps/effects, as an acoustic gig amp, or as a platform for my Helix. One of the main "features" of this amp/monitor that has my attention is the 6 speaker configuration which will hopefully provide a lot more "spread" on stage so that it is easier to hear myself at lower volumes without standing right in front of a single directional speaker. However - I don't have any interest in running it in stereo or wet/dry/wet at this time. I'm sure that sounds great, but I barely ever use stereo effects and I don't want to run 4 cables back and forth across the stage. My questions are: 1) If I just run a single guitar cable into the guitar input on the Firehawk 1500 without using any stereo effects, will the mono signal be amplified through the entire 6 speaker full range system, or just through the 12 inch speaker and tweeter? 2) Similarly - if I just run a single XLR cable from a small mixing board into the mono input on the back for an acoustic gig, will I be amplifying through all 6 speakers? This is perhaps more important, because in this situation, I wouldn't have a sound guy or PA - the Firehawk would be the lone source of amplification for a coffeehouse-type acoustic gig. I guess it really boils down to this: Are the 4 left/right speakers only engaged in a stereo situation, or can I send a mono signal that will "hit" all 6 speakers? Thanks!!! Just tried this for you. 1. I ran a guitar straight into a patch with all post-amp effects turned off. The the coaxial 'side' speakers were not used - just the 12" and the horn. Threw a little reverb in and they came to life. Delay - yep lovely. 2. I ran a single external source in mono to the XLRs and I got a variety of results depending on which XLR(s) I used: LEFT ONLY (MONO) : 12" and Horn were used, but Side Coax Speakers were not. RIGHT and LEFT (split a single source in two mono channels using a Y-splitter) Side Coax Speakers were used with 12", but horn was 'off' RIGHT only as above, but no output to left channel - fair enough. To my ears the Horn gives a fair spread to the sound even without the coaxials. There's some clever DSP going on in this thing. If you need any more info let me know.
BlownGuitar
Thanks for the reply. If the 12" and Horn provide a nice spread on their own, then I may give it a try (then I'll always have the option of going wet-dry-wet if I really want to) ... talwilkins
What happens if you connect a Helix 1/4" to the guitar in (no effects on in FH) and also have two XLR's from Helix connected to monitor in (left and right) of FH? Does this activate all speakers? Does this also work with the FH settings turned to mono?
