garbanzo
As noted above I have a HD. I need to boost the level of signal output when I record, at my present settings I am producing a signal that is -30db in my vue screen. I should add that I want a clean signal as a jazz player, I hve the vintage amp set installed. At present I have the following in the SET UP installations : pg 3/8 guitar in= 22k pg 5/8 s/p level = +12d pg 7/8 the global EQ setting is OFF I have found that increasing the Guitar In from 22k to a higher setting does not enhance the sound quality, like having too much gain, even if the sound level is increased. For example in the JC 120 (Rivet) amp settings, without any additional FX, I have: master 100% ER 100% Low cut 100 hz Res level 100% I am running the signals into Reaper, but despite the above I get a low signal. I have checked my laptop input settings and it is a 100%, though I do not believe that the laptop setting affects the signal into Reaper. Any help or guidance would be very much appreciated, I suspect I have missed some settin, but Which one?
garbanzo
I should have noted that I have the drive at 100 as well as the volume, despite that the sighnal into Reaper is consistently between -40 and-30 on the vue meter, and I would like a reading about -10. If I have missed including any settings of relavance, please ask.
pfsmith0
You could use the Studio EQ to add clean gain to the signal. I don't use Reaper but it may have an input trim control to add gain as well. But I have to say, a -10dB signal is really hot for recording. There's not much room for anything else (other instruments, EQ, expansion, etc).
garbanzo
Hello pfsmith0! Thanks for the advice, I will try the studio EQ. Reaper doesnt have a signal boost on the incoming signal, but rather it is all up to the hardware. BTW, I got the idea of -10dB on the signal chain through one of Reapers instruction vid´s. I dont know if just -10 is magic, but I do know that all the backing tracks I have used on Reaper have a much stronger signal in amplitude that the one I generate through the guitar, os there is a gap to be acccounted for and remidied. garbanzo
Hello hurghico! As I live in Sweden, with the time difference and all, I havent had a chance to check this fully, but a preliminary says that your idea was a good one. I checked the box for a +18dB and the level seems to have gone up in recording. I will be able to give it a better go tomorrow. I see that I did leave inquestion as to how I connect, and you guessed it, by usb. I have experimented with amp settings and used the master in the amp settings, but until I wrote this thread I had not gotten a proper signal anyway.. Yes I do know that the master only affects the sound I hear. I appreciate your reply, and will get back when I have had better chance at testing properly. garbanzo
Hello hurghanico! First thank you for your tips and advice. My problem seems to be cured, and i can say that I have plenty of signal now. Now is the time for confessions as to what, at least, part of the problem was. I was put on the trail by you mentioning the mixer. When I first got my pod, I intended to use only one amp at a time, my logic then was to turn the mixer vol A all the way to the left, and vol B all the way to the right. I havent looked at the mixer since then. Today I centered everything, and even experimented with raising the volume levels in the mixer which immediately gave a stronger signal. To the extent that I had to turn Vol down out of the POD as to not chip the signal in to Reaper. I mention all this as you have been very helpful now, and I believe that i recognize you from earlier questions I have asked. I am sure that countless "problems" you have delt with have been self inflicted by people like me who over zealously adjust everything adjustable, and then wonder why it doesn´t work as expected, as is obviously the case with me. I will admit that the +18dB adjustment you showed me yesterday helped, but nothing in comparison to what has happeden with the adjustments I have described above. Once again, thanks 0zoro
