First time Helix through a house PA

I use the looper for a fairly dry rhythm as well as to set volume.  Then I move around the room soloing to see how it fits with the bass and drums and keyboards after they have been set.  After that I get a fairly good idea of what I want the FOH to be like.  I always have the monitors' EQ flat for level then set the EQ curve to taste and filter out any mike high end squeals per monitor.  Works well for our group.  In ear monitor system to come soon, but for the house PA it seems to work well as I have described

This really depends on what your stage setup is.  Are you purely going through the PA direct through the XLR with no stage amp or FRFR?  What's your monitor situation?  How comfortable are you with the mixing board and what type of PA and FOH speakers are we talking about?  All of these things factor into getting a good live setup.  We can make assumptions, but they may not be accurate depending on what you're doing.

Generally, if I'm going to be using someone's house PA I touch base with them ahead of time to understand what type of system they've got and how it's configured so I have some idea of what to expect and what I'll need to do.

Being in an original band, all I use are house PAs.  Most of the touring acts from Europe have at least ONE Kemper in the band, so they sound guys seem to be familiar with the concept.  Usually when I touch base with the sound guy, and I tell him I am going to just need a direct feed via my DI box, the response usually is:

"Oh, you're running a Kemper?"

My answer, for simplicity's sake, is:

"Yeah, something like that."

They give me an XLR, I plug it, and all is good.

I also tell them to defeat the EQ at the board because it's all set-up in my Helix.  Some guys do, some don't.  It's their gig, they know their room and speakers WAY better than I do, so at that point I just go with it.  My tone has never been bad.  Maybe not EXACTLY like what I set up due to a smidge of extra EQ....there has only been ONCE where my tone was destroyed by a sound guy - and it wasn't just me, the WHOLE band sounded like we were run through a chorus with extra echo.  The mix was AWFUL based on the board recordings.  Oh well....it happens.
