Joystick gets stuck on a selection while scrolling.

Hi all,

My issue is in regards to the behavior of the joystick when turning. Everything is fine when scrolling fast but when I stop on an item and I turn clockwise/counterclockwise by one notch the joystick will not cycle up or down the menu.

Mechanically, I can feel it 'click' a notch but the menu screen is not affected by the motion. But when I turn it by two notches, it highlights the next option on the menu screen.

I also noticed that when I turn the joystick continuously, it will skip and jump highlighted items. It seems like there's particular notch/notches that has no 'bite'.

Anyone else have this issue?

Thanks in advance.

I've been doing some testing.

Maybe someone can perform the same test, I have, to confirm what I am seeing. That is if you are having this problem.

First, put a small piece of tape or whiteout mark on the knob to indicate it's position, so you know where you are at between 12:00 and 12:00. I'm finding that the problem repeats when it is in the same region.

Next, pull up a Setlist. Slowly scroll down the list until you get the stop. Note the position of the knob. Now, just barely turn the knob (not until the next click, but, just barely) and it will advance to the next Preset.

Do this several times and note the position of the knob.

It looks like a hardware problem, but, being an encoder, it could be firmware or software related. I'm hoping for the latter.

Can anyone else duplicate this?

I just recently had my Helix replaced due to failure of that joystick, and many others have faced similar. It seems to be a bit of a weak link in the hardware package. Make sure your Helix is registered and the warranty stuff is in order...

Thanks

Good idea, I was about to do this same test so I can replicate the problem accurately when I bring it to my dealer.

Going back to that 'notch', what alarmed we was a couple of days ago I could still wiggle within that notch and the menu would respond. I thought that since the unit is new if I kept using it normally it would loosen up and improve but it became worse. Now it doesn't scroll the menu up or down at all on that spot when I turn one click in both directions.

True. I've searched the forums and found another owner(s) who encountered a scrolling problem that resulted in a total malfunction down the line.

Update

It only happens when scrolling down (numerically higher Preset).

It only happens with the joystick knob.

It doesn't happen with the Preset knob.

Anybody?

To me it happens when scrolling up or down not only in choosing presets but everything else, blocks, renaming, etc. - the joystick would lag, skip or jump.

I thought it was just typical lag and it was simply loading up the next item but no.

It only happens with the Joystick, the Preset knob behaves normally.

Thanks for the feedback.

Yes, it happens on any screen, not just Presets.

This is exactly what I am experiencing on my unit. Also repeats in the same region. And it only happens if I turn the knob clockwise. However on my unit, the Preset knob is also affected by this issue (exactly the same way). Maybe it is a different (faulty?) batch of encoders they used and the software can't deal with it properly...

I would open a support ticket and give Line 6 all that info you derived while testing. That could be very useful to them and will guide them better in resolving your particular issue.
