Orrimblade
Hi, I just bought myself a POD HD500X and am currently running it through the front input of a Hughes & Kettner Edition Blue 30R. With some tweaking the sound from the unit cleans up nicely. However, I am considering whether it is worthwhile investing in a small amp head, since the H&K does not have an Effects Loop. Now, I have two questions: 1) I have no experience with using an effects loop, is it really a noticeable improvement when running the unit via the effects loop (does the delay and chorus and such really clean up so much)? 2) If I get a small amp head, can I use the H&K amp as a cabinet (power amp), or do I need a separate cabinet to hook up to the amp head? The Bugera G5 Infinium seems very interesting, although I have not played it myself yet. Any input is welcome. Thanks in advance for your help and effort. Yes it does...Line Out/Line In on the back. It's listed on the spec chart on that link you provided.
BillBee
I use a Tech 21 Power Engine 60 and have run an HD into a variety of FX loops and never liked going in the front end of amps with it. The only time it sounded decent was with the amp/cabs disabled and minimal time based effects (so there wasn't much point of using an HD this way IMO). Just watch the volume setting on the HD the first time you use the fx loop. Normally it bypasses an amp's master vol.
pianoguyy
Unless backlined, I have never used a tube amp. Nor did I ever use fx loops. I use my Pod direct to the PA. But prior to owning a Pod, I always used solid-state. And everything ran in one long daisy chain.
Orrimblade
Thanks both for the input... I am a sheep. If it doesn't say Effect Loop I am lost :-D. I hooked up the cables and it works like a charm! Thanks again for the quick response.
