jcknowles89
Hello Team, I'm hoping to get some advice on how to fix this or maybe its a bug that is being fixed. I love everything about my Helix LT with the exception of one thing. Whenever I am playing a High gain pre-amp Block there's a really harsh gating effect. This is especially so on the Panama amp sim. Makes it sound like a gated Fuzz pedal. I do not have any noise gates in other blocks. When I play my regular EVH 5150III through the send and return in 4 cable method its not gated at all. I noticed that this only seems to be the case with really high gain models and for some reason the Placater (HBE-100) amp sim is least effected of the high gain models. Please advise. jcknowles89
It happens any time that i use a pre-amp block really. last time i tried it I literally created a new preset and selected a Panama preamp block. Thats about it.
kylotan
What is your signal chain? i.e. What guitar and pickups are you using, do you have Pad engaged, which output do you use, and where does that output connect to (on the amp)?
jcknowles89
I have a Warmoth Mahogany Strat with Dimarzio Super 3 in bridge and Super 2 in Neck. Straight in to Helix, I haven't checked the input settings so I don't know if pad is on or not, I use the main mono 1/4 output directly to the EVH 5150 III Effects loop Return. However I think its worth noting that this issue occurred with Very low output PAFs in a Les paul and going into a PRS archon 25 combo effects loop return as well. For whatever thats worth. HonestOpinion
This probably is not the issue but some users are unaware that there is a noise gate on the Input block. It is worth checking to make sure it is either off or that the Threshold parameter is set properly. I remember when I first got my Helix and was trying out the factory presets some of them had the gate on and the threshold was set too aggressively for my setup and was killing the sustain. soblivion
Also check the Decay....bring it down. I had alot of issues with the gate until I brought the Decay down on the input gate.
jcknowles89
Hey guys, thanks for the replies. So the input gate is off the impedance is at auto and the global eq is off too. Any other thoughts?
