bignath
Hi there, First time poster here... I have just recently grabbed a POD HD500X which I am amazed by, and have a gig coming up in the next few weeks and would like to use it as opposed to my pedalboard and amp. I have done a forum search but couldn't locate the answer I needed (might have used wrong terminology?) Is it possible to run the POD HD500X into the PA direct, and also use my amp on stage so that we have "some" stage volume? I can run it through the PA and just route it in the pa back through my foldback (and everyone elses) but some of the other band members would prefer me to still have an amp on stage for monitoring of my guitar signal as opposed to just using foldback. Im not sure why......maybe they are just a bit timid of jumping through the "first time with no amp on stage" hoops.....dunno. Anyway, is this technically possible to do? Or can you only go to the PA, or amp by themselves? cheers for any help with this. bignath
TheRealZap
the best way to do it would be to get a powered PA speaker and run an FRFR rig. (one of the new L2 or L3 speakers would be most ideal because of the integration, but not the only option.) this will help to keep your tone uniform. radatats
Run the XLR outs to the FOH board and use the left 1/4 out to your amp for a mono signal. If you have a FX loop run straight in to the FX return to bypass your amp's pre section. Set your output to Studio Direct. There may be a slight difference in tone between the PA and your amp but it shouldn't be a game changer. If you are running a single amp patch and not worried about stereo effects, you can run one 1/4 to your amp backline and the other 1/4 to a powered speaker for monitor too. :)
bignath
thanks for the replies guys...really appreciate you taking the time to help me out. What you described above is exactly what I ended up trying out actually. I have a mixing desk at home with some nice Yamaha studio monitors, and it sounds ok, but due to the limited volume I can push through them, I wasn't sure if it would come out sounding the same when I eventually run it through a full size pa, and also wasn't sure if it would be ok to run the amp from a studio / direct setting. Anyway, tried it out, seems to work ok, even though I know I will most likely have to tweak my patches when I can eventually run it through the band pa. Thanks again for your replies.
