HD500 AND 500X Hard Pan Left Right Issue

OK, I've been searching and found a few unresolved discussions not quite the same as my issue.

I have a 500 and a 500X doing the same thing with copied patches, global settings have been matched.

I want a non cab sim amp from the pod Left out into my Marshal tube amp FX return, I've been using like this for years, sounds great.

I also want another signal to an in ear mixer with a cab sim so it doesn't sound like poop.

Sounds easy, make a dual amp patch with mixer as the last in the signal, pan one for the amp left, other for mixer right.

It works! Sounds awesome. I copy the patch with the conversion tool to load on the X and both guitars should have a good signal to mixer and amps.

But after playing for a min, switching patches as usual, i can hear the tone change, particularly to the amp. Now the amp is getting cab sim signal and sounding boomy.

I check the signals several times and confirm the signal is mixing like it's not panned! I verified by panning both hard right, but still have sound on both outputs. Same visa versa.

I can play around with it for a minute and get it to pan again, but it always ends up bleeding across after a minute!

What is going on?!

I have two patches with varying pedals doing the same thing. If I plug usb in and run 500 edit, it seems to fix until i start changing patches.

Try the patch for yourself!

Any help?

Cables are connected as follows,

Guitar in 1/4"

L/Mono 1/4" to amp fx return

XLR Right out to mixer

(I've also verified the issue with just headphones, so I don't think it's a cabling issue or anything external)

Global settings,

Studio direct

Input 1 guitar, 2 Same

It's not well documented, if it's documented at all but you have missed a step :)

  • The XLR outputs obey the L/R panning at all times...
  • The 1/4" outs obey the panning ONLY if both plugs are used. If you only use one 1/4" output, the L/R gets summed to mono on that output.

It's a simple solution... put a dummy plug into the R/Mono 1/4" output.

But even with headphones? nothing plugged into outputs?

Well - the headphones should put left to left and right to right. Are you saying the Left side is getting the RIGHT signal as well? Shouldn't be... I'd check my headphones and/or headphone amp if I were using one... and don't forget to double check the orientation of your headphones :)

First, I disagree with saying that it isn't documented. It clearly states l/mono.

That's not documentation.... that's a label. It is quickly overlooked by way of "assumption" by most. You are right, I'm not arguing that.... just pointing out that this is a subject the deserves it's own "special note" within the manual.

If you need a distinct L or R output from the 1/4" jacks, you MUST use a dummy jack in the other output.
