Is The Development Kit Being Supported/updated?

I'm in the market for something like the ToneCore Development Kit, but I'm trying to get a couple questions answered before I buy.

 

I've called the customer service phone number twice.  The first time, it said the waiting time was six minutes and that I could have a call back.  I chose the callback, but had to leave my office for a meeting a half hour later.  Of course, that's when the return call came in.  The message was professional and polite, so I called back, and again was told that there was a six minute wait, and I chose callback.  It has now been almost an hour and a half with no call back.  I thought I might open a support ticket, so I created an account, but apparently I have to register a product before I can add a support ticket...

 

So, anyway:

 

1) I have Vista 64 bit.  Apparently this is a show-stopper.  Has this changed?  I've got a chicken and egg thing going on; all my other programs work just fine, so it's a bit hard to justify upgrading or buying a new computer just for Tonecore without trying ToneCore first.  At the same time, if ToneCore is a legitimate product, it would seem this limitation would be fixed, yes?

 

2) What is the support lifetime of ToneCore?  I've had a couple projects in the past go EOL before I was done, and I'd prefer not to invest the time if that may happen here.

 

3)  There are only four topics here in this part of the forum.  Is the development kit really that good, or are there just not that many developers?

I have seen very little commentary on the Tonecore kit since I joined this forum in 2009. I notice that the most recent Tonecore product update was in 2008. On the other hand, it was not among the products that were recently listed as no longer being supported as of Jan. 2014.

 

So I guess the answer is that it is technically still supported, but I think it is no longer being actively developed.

 

Personally, I would not expect a 64-bit update. I can't see a product that hasn't been update in 5 years suddenly getting development attention.

I'm doing my undergrad research on DSP and want to use this since I've always loved music and want to get into making effects. I'm in the process of installing VirtualBox to load in a 32 bit version of Windows, but I have a $1800 gaming rig with enough power that this won't be more than an annoyance to me. Wish they'd churn their dev tools through a modern compiler, but even Freescale won't update their C utilities for the DSP that powers this thing (and therein lies the root cause of Line6 not upgrading) so good luck.

Just Purchased the Tone Core Development Kit. I want to learn how to code DSP's. It works in XP mode in windows 7 professional and the Freescale Symphony software only worked after some freescale support help. ( needed to add an old version of Java JRE as one of the sub-folders ). I am looking hard everywhere for some code examples without much luck.

I just dusted off my Tonecore kit after leaving it in the closet for 5 years.  Installed all tools on an old XP partition and actually got them running today after several previous attempts failing up against JREs, 64 bit, etc.  Good to know about the Win 7 compatibility and also ability to use the JRE 1.5 even if a later one is installed on the system.  

 

As far as finding code examples, that's a toughie.  I just don't see any.

 

I've been doing a lot of DSP effectscoding in the past few years on the Spin FV-1 and wrote a GUI DSP CAD tool so you can just hook together blocks sort of like in Pure Data and set the parameters, never writing a line of code.  I'd like to see if something similar is possible on this thing.  The FV-1 is great but I sense the Tonecore can do 4 or 5 times as much.
