brian6string
While playing my POD HD500x at church today, several times, it just rebooted (powered off and then immediately powered on) while I was playing. I suspected a bad extension cord, so I replaced that. Problem persists. I replaced the Line 6 power adapter with another (I have a spare from my old POD X3). Problem persists. I recently started using an external expression pedal (from NosePedal.com) and after removing that I didn't have the problem. I didn't play very long while it was removed so I can't say definitively. So here's the question, is there any way that the external expression pedal could cause this behavior? Seems unlikely to me. If not, I'm left with some problem with the POD itself. Any thoughts? silverhead
Don't use your old X3 power adapter; the Pod HD uses DC not AC. You could cause damage to the Pod HD. Otherwise, it seems you have a potential diagnosis. Continue to test that and let us know if the problem persists without using the NosePedal. boyce89976
Yes, please keep us updated. I'm looking at adding an expression pedal too. From what I've read, the POD works best with a pot with a certain resistance (10k linear, I think)... perhaps yours is not the right resistance, but I'm not sure how that would cause a power cycling issue, though. michaelbattista
I have a similar problem. I just purchased the HD500X. I am using it in a 4cm, and I noticed that once in a while, when I click on the Toe Switch for the expression pedal (wah) the sound is cut, the POD emits a high pitched sound, then the POD reboots. It thankfully reopens to the same patch. That said, it is REALLY bad in a live performance setting. It happens on a few different patches, not always on the same one. What do you think? brian6string
So, at this point I'm going to call this user error--the POD X3 Live power supply is rated at 2000mA, where the POD HD500X power supply is rated at 3000mA. So it makes sense that after a while, the 2000mA wouldn't be enough and it would lose power.
Charlie_Watt
Worse than that the X3 uses an AC power supply and the HD500x uses a DC power supply!!!!
brian6string
Worse than that the X3 uses an AC power supply and the HD500x uses a DC power supply!!!! I know that's what the adapter says on it, but the adapter has a giant transformer inline. Transformers do only one thing AC -> DC conversion, right? Seems sketchy to me....but I'm no EE
TheRealZap
in that case it steps down 120volts to 9 volts AC the previous posters are correct... the adapters are not interchangeable. Charlie_Watt
There isn't a transformer in the world that converts AC to DC. IT only converts AC to a different voltage / current AC! Most "Wall Warts" are DC and they have a rectifier and filter inside. The HD500x Wall wart is one of these. Most other Line 6 wall warts are just the AC transformer. They are not interchangeable. Not sure why they went this way now. I have several of the old AC units that came with old pods and my old variax.
michaelbattista
This did not answer my issue at all. I am using the supplied power supply.
