Is This A New Feature Or A Problem?!

Hey guys

Just updated the HD500 do 2.2 and have the JTV on 2.0. I noticed that if, for example, I'm on a patch set to acoustic 1 on the JTV (or anything else) and then move the PU selector it will change the acoustic sounds on the JTV regardless of where the model selector is...

so, i.e. the patch is set for acoustic, the model knob is on T-model, and when moving the PU selector it changes acoustic sounds rather than T-model sounds as before...

so, is this a new feature or a problem?

hope that was clear enough...

Hi pugdealer.

I noticed the same thing when I was using fw 2.0 with the JTV59 plugged into the HD500 with VDI.  So, I think it is working as designed - unless I also have a fault with my JTV59 (which is not beyond doubt).  I can't double check at the moment because I have rolled back to v1.71 to avoid another problem I got when using JTV fw v2.0  with the HD500, which is a loud pop every time I change Hd500 patch that forces a JTV model change.  On v1.71 the patch and model change is silent - with v2.0 I get a loud pop. I have another thread open dealing with that.

It seems that whatever model bank the HD500 patch change switches you to on the JTV, stays as the "selected" model bank regardless of the actual position of the "model knob" on the guitar.  So the pu selector just changes within models within that bank.  To get the JTV to recognise you want a different bank whilst on the same patch that forced the model change, you need to physically move the "model knob" on the guitar, then the JTV recognises the bank selected by the "model knob".   I think it has to do with the change that introduced the ability to use the JTV knobs to control parameters within the HD500, and the "lock" and "unlock" variax controls, which I have not yet dabbled with and just left on default values.

I might go back to 1.71 again...It always worked for me, specially the acoustics...but I really wanted to know if this was a feature or a problem...so far I'm tied, since I got 2 different replies!

I am not sure why Arislaf could not reproduce it - is he on v2.0 fw with his JTV and on v2.2 with his HD500 and connected via VDI with the HD500 forcing a model change on the JTV - and using the default for the Variax "lock"/ "unlock" controls in the HD500 global params screen?

However, it depends on whether you see this particular issues as a problem or not.  For me it was not a problem as I don't manually switch patches on my JTV when playing live - I let the HD500 control it - so it did not matter to me that it behaved differently.  If you use the HD500 to change a JTV model, and then manually swap using the pu selector when playing live, then I guess it will be a problem because you will now also have to move the model knob if you wish to manually select a guitar model from a different bank to the one you were forced to with the HD500 patch.

Also depends on whether you get the annoying pop sound when changing HD500 patches - that forced my hand and I had to roll back to get rid of it.

Maybe someone else will chime in with their experience that will also help shed a bit more light on the subject.
