Delay tricks and signal fun...

I'm not asking to duplicate this songs specifically...but I'm a bit of a delay newbie....Im listening to Vince Neil's solo album and the first track 'Look In Her Eyes" featuring Steve Stevens (what a player) really showcases his effects usage and playing (whole album really, love his town on this album).

Anyway at about 3:40 into the first track he goes into some cool delay type of tricks and I'd love to incorporate these into some live solos where I get to mess around.  More for jaw dropping effect than anything really.  I used to use a raygun sorta effect during the Rebel Yell song and it always caught people off guard.  I haven't found a way to program a good ray gun on here either, but that's another thread.

Anyway, any tips to pursue the type of sounds on the effects he is using in the solo at this point of the song?  It almost sounds like old school computer sorta sounds....I could be fooled and maybe be pulled the toy raygun trick again on this track and I've never read about it....

Thanks in advance

and I could be (read: probably am) completely wrong.

I thought I had read that he uses delay modules/pedals/rack units and plays in real time with the knobs to change the different settings.  Maybe it is more of a synth thing...idk, i'm synth illiterate.  But I remember seeing either a live rig rundown or something and he had something off to the right of his guitar pedalboard that was about chest/waist high and had something he could manipulate.

hmm....

Is there a good tutorial to explore synths for newbies?

The synth's seem pretty simple so just put one in a path and put other effects after if you want to mess with it. Here's some delay fun. Put the Transistor Tape delay in your patch, turn the feedback up fairly high and mess with the delay time. Then mess with the feedback at the same time. Be careful it can get away from you. Be ready to turn the Transistor Tape off. I think that will work. This is essentially the effect you hear on a few Boston songs.
